Are you taking a boat? And using lures or live bait?

We'll be putting the boat in by Sargent. Is it difficult to get to East Mat from Sargent?

Our plan is to drift and use live shrimp on corks as search bait and switch to plastics once we locate fish.

It's a long drive (4.5 hrs) from Temple so any pointers will be appreciated!

Getting to East Bay is simple, go south down the Intercoastal canal and there are several entrances. Most are shallow, just go slowly to the south shore. Look for bait activity, should be all along there. Reports say that the trout can still be found on shell reefs in deeper water too. I use a Hook & Line map to find them with the GPS coordinates after it gets hot and the fish move to deeper water.

This time of year, catch some trout and reds throwing a topwater around oyster shell whether it is exposed or under water. Early, late, or high noon a Skitterwalk or Super Spook Jr. will get bit if you can not get them to eat anything else.

Thank you all for the tips! We end up with 12 trout by canery creek. 4 were over 21ins! Water was still very muddy and we had no luck in the bay and on top water lures... Will upload photo once I figure out how lol
