After using the $19.99 pinnacle tiny deadbolt for a few years, one of my fishing buddies introduced me to a reel that did it all, a lot better than the tiny deadbolt, without breaking the bank. Bought my first Shimano Sienna 1000 a few months ago and loved it. $29.99 and it performed great. Casts well, weight felt good in my hand, and the drag worked smoothly. Decided to do some online shopping to pass time the other day and Dicks Sporting Goods was selling both the sienna 500, and 1000 for $19.99! Well THANK YOU JESUS!!! I wasnt supposed to be spending any money but at that price.... well I bought 4 more, lol. Not sure if the stores have restocked. The Dicks in parks mall was out of 1000s but had a few 500. But, you can buy them online at that price.

Thanks for the tip. I'm trying to get my spin fishing collection up to speed and this sound like a good addition.

By the way, any suggestions on rod and lines to go with the Shimano Reels? I have a 500 and a 1000 reels coming. I love to fish for crappie (Lake Livingston -- mainly Kickapoo creek). I'm happy with whatever I catch though.
Thanks again!
Deb

I use Power Pro slick braid on these smaller spool reels. If you prefer mono, I like Mr. Crappie line. I stay away from fluorocarbons because of their stiffness..they don't lay well on these smaller spools. I do use fluorocarbon for a leader. I use Seaguar red label.

I'd rather spend a little more and get a Pflueger President 6920 with 10 bearings, versus a reel with only 4 bearings...

Fly tier (yeah, I can fly fish...but the fish don't like frothy water!)
