For the week of memorial day my self, my buddy John, his brother Matt and Father Rich loaded up and made the trip to Canada for a week of fishing with Wilderness Air out of Vermillion Bay Ontario.

https://www.wilderness-air-escapes.com/fishing-trips/

DFW to Chicago O'Hare then to Winnipeg and drive north to Vermillion Bay and load our gear and guide Ted into an Otter and were off.

Left to right you have - my self, John, Rich, Ted(our guide) & Matt

With all the water we had (16,000ac I Believe) I knew it was going to be a good week.

All we had to bring was our fishing tackle- Rods, line, lures and they supplied 16' Lund boats with 9.9hp Yamaha outboards, life jackets, anchors, paddles, ect.

Ted our guide as it turned out was an amazing cook, I can hold my own with anybody in the kitchen but it was nice to come back after a hard day fishing and sit down to food like this.....

Bacon wrapped Walleye, fried pike and fresh cooked bannock with raspberry jam, was a great way to start the day.

To my surprise Ted even knew how to properly do a steak.... and ribs, fried lake trout, Caesar salad, sauted mushrooms and garlic herb Yukon potatoes.

I tried to keep track of how many fish we caught but I simply gave up; I remember one morning my self and John had caught and released 27 pike in the first 2 hours of fishing.

The lake had Pike, Walleye, Trout and Musky .... None of which I had ever caught before and I set the goal of catching each of the 4 types of fish; only to be told that Musky are the "Fish of 10,000 casts"

Matt with one of the many Walleye we caught; the biggest of which was 27" but sadly we didn't get a pic of it

My First ever Lake Trout.

Musky - "The fish of 10,000 casts" made his appearance while I was fishing for Walleye; Murphy's law being a ruling factor in my life this fish hit a 4" Cabela's yellow and white twister tail jig with a 3/8oz(I think) blaze orange jig head on a 4' long Shakespeare micro spinning combo that I bought at academy for $24.99 years ago..... The line Berkley XL Smooth 6lbs

Before and after of what the jig looked like.....

As the sun set on our list day of fishing I could only think that this had started as a trip of a lifetime; but is going to turn into a yearly adventure.

I can't say enough about our outfitter Wilderness air, they literally took care of everything. When we arrived our grocery order including liquor and beer was ready and waiting for a flawless excursion.

Thanks Jamaica....

Top producing lures for the trip were....

Pike - Len Thompson 5 of diamonds in red & yellow & Mepp's Cyclops fire tiger; they literally beat the paint off our spoons.

Lake Trout - Johnson silver spoons with pink hook skirt & ruby eye silver spoons

Walleye - Yellow and white twister tails with blaze orange jig heads

Which brings to mind my posting on this forum for advice on what to bring and the answers I got were spot on; I could have left half the lures I bought at home, but now I have enough tackle for 2 more trips

Rods I used and recommend are....

1. 6'6" Ugly stick elite medium heavy with 14lbs fluorocarbon
2. 6' medium spinning rod with 8lbs trilene
3. 4'6" ultra light with 6lbs Trilene XL Smooth

We've used them before. Smaller lake with cabin and no guide.
Great outfit.
