How many of you peg your sinkers and why? I fish a baby brushhog around docks and some brush in 1 to 4 ft. Just wondering what folks do, thanks.

I peg both T-Rig and C-Rig. I fish heavy cover only; so that is the main reason. I do not want the bait remaining in the bush and the weight going to the bottom. I want the weight to take the bait through the bush to the bottom. I do not feel for the bit on a T-Rig. I pitch in, take two strips of line off the reel making sure it falls straight down and doesn't pull away from the cover I am throwing to. If I see the line jump there is no question. As soon as it touches down which is just a learned presentation that you know in one or two seconds that the fish has had time to pick it up. I feel for resistance. It could be the bush; but I set the hook anyway. I get more bites on this slack line presentation and feel like the fish will take it better when there is no resistance. I realize that the weight is some resistance but they have no trouble sucking in my 1.5 heavy drop shot in deep grass; so no problem on a 3/8 oz. worm weight pitching bushes.

Texas rig is my primary method.....like 70% easy....used to be more like 90%.....so, 40 years of throwing it first, most, and last.....never pegged a sinker in my life.....

If you flip cover pegging is a good option.

If you are not sure take 2 same setup and try both. No matter what you are doing.

I like the bobber stoppers. They hold the bullet weight against the worm/creature bait and keep the hook eye from coming out of the bait. I do a lot of finesse fishing with 1/8 - 1/4 oz. bullet weights.

Mr. Harper is a much younger man than myself therefore he is still in the learning process. That being said this is a highly talked about topic that has many answers. Do what you think the situation calls for. As for me, I peg. ha, ha! Donald!!

Very true. I learn something new everyday. Wednesday I learned never tell the Old Lady you forgot to take the dumpster out to the road. When you remember you forgot just hide the trash until next week. Out of site out of mind type thing.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the responses, I'm getting alot of bumps and hits on my baits,but I can't hook em. I havnt been pegging my sinker, do you think they might be hitting my sinker instead of my bait, just wondering if that is possible. Thanks again.

what type of bait and hook? I've noticed that certain hooks with certain baits give horrible hookup ratios.

Some of those "bites" might not be bass, it could be perch (bream). For years and years I never pegged a bait and I seek out flipping/pitching opportunities everywhere I go. If the cover isn't thick, you can get by without pegging when pitching (like docks). But, if you're pitching into pads, reeds, willow bushes, etc, your bait will many times get stuck in the cover and not follow the weight down as mentioned above so you're probably not even getting your bait to where the fish are located. Worse, a bass could grab your bait but with the line between your weight and bait you more than likely won't get a good hook set.

I peg mine, but I leave it about an inch above the line tie to let it keep a little more action. Just remember to pull it back down after you have a fish on. They will move up
