We live in Dallas and I've taken my boat to the coast three times over as many years and have had success at the jetties but I'm hearing there are some good structures within state waters out of port a and would appreciate any advice or coordinates whatever. Heck call me if your feeling the help bug. Thanks in advance

I don't know what you are hoping to catch but since you mentioned coordinates I assume some bottom fish are in the mix. When you clear the jetties at Port A head north. There are some platforms left there that should hold Red Snapper and Mangrove Snapper. Some are within the 9 nauti mile state waters and some may be a little further out. But hey, I won't tell. wink

I'll look to see if I have some numbers of wrecks in that direction to try. How far are you willing to run?

Thanks. Depends on how calm it is but not thinking more than 10 miles max. I'm open to catching anything. We'll surely fish the jetties but never have caught a smaller and that sounds cool.

just noticed a BUNCH of new rigs 2-5m off the fish pass jetties yesterday.
roughly 15 m s. of port a jetties, or 10m north of packery.

Brian .... when you say new "rigs" are you speaking drilling rigs that may be stacked there or are you referring to those old platforms that dot the area. Those old platforms sometime harbor ling and mangos.

Clay check out Reef Locator but you'll need to open it in the old IE as Chrome does not support Silverlight. Check out Boatmens about 6 miles out of the Port A jetties. Thinking about heading out there around the 27th or 28th. Good luck!

Thanks Guys!! I feel like it will be calm enough for us to run out there. I'm guessing we'll use live shrimp and I might try to catch some bait with my cast net as well. I had a thought to go to the lake up here early early Thursday morning and catch a bunch of chad hopefully some good sized gizzard shad to take down there as well.

Check your PMs for some wreck info I sent you.

Regarding bait options .... live shrimp is always good to have on board but over these shallow wrecks I wouldn't put them down there until I had an idea what was there. you could end up using all of you live shrimp to feed trash fish, etc.

More options would include buying a small box of Cigar Minnows and a small box of squid. If you do get some Gizzard Shad that would be good. But bring your cast net and if you have time and the water is calm and clear go out to the pier (Horace Caldwell) and try to get some Menhaden (pogies) and what else might be available. You might also put the boat in early enough to try some spots close by for pin perch. Live Pin Perch is always good. You can get them around the boat ramp, across the channel at the Aransas Pass side of the ferry landing and also along the jetties going out. I think if you headed out with a dozen or two live perch you increase your chances of catching something worthwhile.

Good luck!
