I moved not to long ago to Central Texas because of work and have yet to find decent size crappie fishing here. What are some good bodies of water to bank fish for crappie? So far the best fishing I have had is on Lake Granger!

Two other good crappie lakes are Belton and Waco. Both are closed now due to high water and probably won't be open for two months or more. CenTex crappie will never measure up to east TX crappie. Water not fertile enough. Avg fish are about a pound for CenTex crappie. 7 fish that weigh 10 lbs is a good day.

I have caught crappie in Granger, Waco and Trading house. Never caught any in Belton or Stillhouse even before the flood.

Over the years I noticed still house produced bigger fish but it seems Belton has the better numbers. You have to put time in both to be consistent at finding and catching them.

Small water but used to have some nice crappie in it. Battle creek is east of Waco and has a "lake" that's used for the water supply. Caught a ton of crappie from the point where the 2 halves meet.

You got some nice crappie in Lake Somerville. But it won't be opened for a while.

Waco is the most consistent "Central Texas" lake for me. Granger is feast or famine...been blanked many times, but also have my only tournament win there. Stillhouse is real tough and the fish run small. If your top 7 go 7 pounds, that's pretty darn good. Belton used to be pretty solid, but with the rising and falling water over the last couple of years, the fish are inconsistent.

Dam busted a few years back and I don't think they ever fixed it. I haven't been out there in many years and is bad news. That place made me dinners, lunches, and a few breakfasts for 3 months while I was at TSTI. After 3 months of mostly crappie I ended taking 2 coolers of fillets to my parents and gave it all away. Didn't care as long as I didn't have any fish when I came home.

No sir, it's open, but not sure where you can launch a boat. Kayak and bank fishing are good to go. Went to the Stillhouse marina yesterday. Sign at the gate says it's closed, but the gates are not closed. The entire parking lot was filled with vehicles. The marina is open and you can walk to it. Folks fishing everywhere. Good luck

Went to lake granger at midnight was fishing under the dam bridge and found a nice lil pile of crappie. Had 12 nice size keeper crappie and caught a bunch of babies when I noticed I had a few sets of eyes on me peeking from underneath the nearby rocks. Needless to say I let the snakes have their day and I took my prize and went home. Thanks a ton for the recommendations guys and I for sure will be trying some of the other spots out after I repair my kayak or get it exchanged! Hopefully the later.
