Anyone ever tried bluegills for hybrids? What's the hook up ratio compare to shad?

That's a tactic used on Belton. Never done it myself, but worked with a guy who had a pontoon, and they drifted for them. He said they had real good results.

Tried that on Whitney for stripers and they weren't taking them at all. We were glad we had caught some shad as well. They were hammering the shad, not a single nibble on the blue gill

Bluegill are great for hybrids in creeks during the spring. I know they'll eat bluegill on the lake, it just depends on how many shad are available.

They will work on hybrids on Lewisville but not quite as good as shad. Shad are easy to find but harder to keep lively in the heat. A good bait tank makes all the difference.

blue gill are my favorite bait in the summer time. they stay alive much longer than shad in a bait tank and the hybrids love them.

They work ok. Seem to work better in the spring and early summer than in the heat of the summer for some reason. In my experience they work pretty good but not nearly as productive as shad.

Perch do stay alive much longer than shad in less than ideal situations. However, they absolutely suck to get out of a grayline bait tank. They are masters at hiding behind the pump.

If I'm going to use sunfish for bait, either for Catfish or Hybrids, Bluegills is really last. I'll take a Green Sunfish over Bluegills all day. IMO.

Yes those are the exact gills I was thinking, the shad would not last long for some reason in the livewell so I was thinking of using those gills. They seem the thrive and take the beating a little longer than shad. Haven't tried gills yet but would like to soon

Sometimes they work great and sometimes not so much. This past weekend they were preferred over shad but both caught fish. My daughter caught these two doubles on perch.

I have caught plenty of Bass (LMB) over the years on Bluegill that I have hooked while fishing for Bluegill. Should do well on the Strippers.

Longear sunfish (the one show in the pic) are much brighter and livelier than regular bluegills and they do seem to work a little better. I like the bright colored sunfish for all species of fish.

Use them all the time on Hubbard they work great. I have run low and saved the last two for cut bait and they will hit that also.
