Out on Lewisville this morning. I was pitching my bait in the flooded brush and I heard "ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ" I had inadvertently grabbed a limb to hold myself from drifting off as my lizard soaked that evidently had a paper wasp nest near that I disturbed.

They came out EVERYWHERE! I back paddled so hard I thought I was going to get my Kayak up on plane.

I figured I was out of harm's way and BAM! right on my top lip!

That stings folks, I let loose a stream of profanity so vile that My mom who lives in another state spontaneously blushed and she was 200 miles away.

Anyway, luckily no bad reaction. Paddled back in loaded up and came home early and got my yard work done.

Any tips on getting the swelling down? Still hurts a couple hours later. Oh well..............

I did manage several fish. Got several of 8-12" spotted bass on a little crankbait around the flooded Lake Park boat ramp and a 2# largemouth on my lizard in the willow and buck brush.

Make sure the stinger isn't in tree anymore for starters. Then ice and so on. If you chew tobacco getting the tobacco over the sting helps pull te stinger out if it's in there, but the location of that sting could make this method difficult.

WOW, it sucked until I went to bed. Early as the benadryl had me zonked. Lip has gone down but there is still some residual swelling.

Thanks for the tips fellas.

I am going back out tomorrow but no way am I getting near that willow again.

A million years ago, some of my college track team members and I floated down the Brazos. We pulled over to get off the river for awhile and our trainer, Danny, got out of one of the canoes, spotted a large transient honey bee hive on a large tree trunk and decided for some reason that it would be a good idea to throw a big rock in the middle of it. We were all around him pretty close, but nearer the water and not yet as far up on the shore, but the bees made a "bee line" just for Danny and he had to run and jump in the river and go under to stop the attack.

With honey bees, what happens is they spot the source of trouble for the hive then bees advance on it (Danny, here) and leave a "marking/tracking pheromone" and it gives other bees a chemical path to follow to sting a specific target.

So, no one else was stung . . . just the way it should have been. Danny ran right between a half dozen of us to dive in the water and the bees paid no attention to any of us. They wanted Danny's [censored] . . . got some of it, too.

Wasps and Yellow jackets? Stir them up and I think they just sting anyone close by.

Next time make a paste of meat tenderizer.
Meat tenderizer is an enzyme that breaks down the proteins in the sting. (doesn't really work as well on bee stings, since the sting is more of a, well, stinger.)

I can remember when I was a youngster, seeing red wasp nests the size of turkey platters in the cedar swamps off of the Sabine river. Having been stung on the end of my nose by a red wasp, during an incident similar to your Danny's (I was 8, though....), I have a very healthy respect for those maniacal little demons. And a low-level hatred.

I got nailed on the Brazos a couple years back, made for a miserable day. Glad you caught some fish though.
