Do a search of Dennis Christians posts. He goes into detail about good spots on that lake.

White bass fishing has turned off for me the last few days. I suspect a new hatch of shad. That means you'll find fish that won't bite because all lures are too big, and you have to keep searching and trying til you find fish feeding on the bigger, older shad. I haven't had a chance to spend that much time on the lake since this started, so this is just my theory until I can get out and prove it.

Was out there most of Sunday morning marking fish with only a few takers. Even my goto spot which always produces undersized whites failed miserably. Talked with 3 other boats with similar results. One boat blamed it on the full moon. Not so sure on the moon impact.

Well, I got out and tried a different area of the lake and went to some spots that have consistently produced in the past. And I found fish that would take my Mepps - all down near the bottom in 14 to 17 fow. Caught 54 including 40 whites and a legal hybrid. The spots were Key Ranch Drop-off, Merimac Point, Spillway Hump and the Rock Pile.

Interesting theory Dennis. I noticed a million small shad around my dock this weekend. Then went out fishing Sunday afternoon. Marked a huge school of fish. I was bouncing my slabs off their heads - literally. No bites. Switched to trolling a #12 pet (about the size of the shad) behind a hellbender and caught fish every time. Not sure if this is enough empirical evidence to prove your theory or not!

I hate trolling. Maybe this is the year that I will learn your Mepps Method.

A lot of them suspend off the bottom in summer.
Get out the Benders and planers.

And greedily devour the treacherous bait.

Had the same thing happen at RC. Ton of fish bustin top but would not eat anything but a small spinner.

I have been back out a couple of times and have found fish (in 12 to 16 fow) that will still take a #4 Mepps - meaning, I believe, they were feeding on the older shad.

Dennis is correct, there are lots of schools of micro shad all over the lake right now. It can make the fishing tough in many areas.
