I had the privilege to take a great coworker and friend out for his very first crappie adventure! Boy did we have a great day! Jim got to learn a few things and found as the day goes on, that there is no particular pattern to crappie! He was amazed at the tiny things that make a difference, like having to have a pink jig head or no bite! Since Jim has never fished for or eaten a crappie, I knew it was my duty to change that. He did pretty good, got 7 out of the 30. Bass fishing made him miss a ton of fish! He was wanting them to take the bait longer. I think his next time he will more than double his numbers! I really think my numbers will go up as well if a certain someone over at Thermocline Lures would quit blowing my phone up while I'm fishing!LOL taz
We caught all of our fish on Thermocline Lures Lil Fry's in Ice Shad!

Even had a ditch pickle!

God Bless, Tight Lines and Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there!

Nice Job. Looks like one of you spanked a ditch pickle. I had to explain that very same thing to my nephew (bass fisherman) about not waiting for that tap, tap, tap. If you miss that first tap you just missed your fish. fish

WTG, figures Thermocline had a big part in keeping you hopping.

For a crappie novice wanting to put a few crappie lures in his tackle box for occasional use, would you advise me to use the Lil Fry or the Slab Bug (made by Thermocline), i.e. which one? I can get some of both, in several colors, but do you guys use one of these styles/shapes more often than the other, or does it depend on where/when/water clarity/other factors?

I recommend the fry and tadpole for year round, because of the profile being close to baitfish. The Slab bug has its place also in the Spring and Summer. As far as colors, must haves are: Black Emerald Shiner, Ice Shad and Black/Chartreuse. There are lots of other great colors, but these produce in most water clarities, or I should say get you started and bit!

Hats off to you, Red. Ya done a good thing!
