Hi there I'm Ryan and I normally fish for cats but I have been interested in getting back in to bass fishing. I'm getting my pay check next week and I'm going to go to Academy to get a lews American hero rod and reel combo. Is there any other rod and reel combo yall would recommend for around 80 bucks? And what kinds of soft plastics should I pick up? I already have some yum dingers and they are so far my favorite out of any other worm. Il be fishing alot of neighborhood ponds and creeks around here. Just would like some recommendations of good software plastics and some lures.

Keep it simple. Pond bass aren't picky. A few spinnerbaits but definitely some 1/4oz and 1/8oz worm weights, some 3/0 worm hooks and some baby brush hogs. Also grab some flukes to rig weightless. I'd get a 6'6 combo med/heavy. You can throw a variety of stuff on that type of rod. 15lb big game

Flukes and wacky-rigged senkos (or the yum dingers that you have) always work well on ponds for me.

flukes, senkos, and H&H spinnerbaits or beetle spins are all you need

The man is right on. Most ponds are full of snot moss so anything with a weight on it just gets bogged up in the stuff but a weightless fluke and all the other stuff he said will definitely work.
Have fun and watch for snakes.

Smaller swimbaits are pond bass killers. Weightless on a 2/0 offset hook or on a lightweight shaky head w/ screw lock. Double ZZ Swayback swimmers (3.5") or Reaction Innovations Little Dippers. Start with a slow, steady retrieve and experiment from there. Good luck!!

For $89 u can get a h20 mettle combo from academy which is a great reel and rod combo. I have a couple of them and have been using them for years. As for lures green pumpkin senko, brush Hog, white shad color pattle tell swim bait; dipp tial in green glow garlic, and a proper with a white bottom. Those are some of my go to baits that catch fish.

Lots of good advice given. Just don't be afraid to throw bigger lures.

There's really no need to downsize your baits in a pond. The bluegil and bass are usually just as big if not bigger than in a lake. A full sized spook and an 8 inch swimbait have caught plenty of fish for me in ponds.
