Im sure this has been talked about before, but does anyone throw deep big crankbaits like the 6 and 10xd on a heavy action rod?

Of course. But to be more specific, it helps to use a longer rod, say 7' 6" to 8', and many prefer a glass graphite composite. Also, what works with the 6xd may be too light for the 10xd. I just bought an Impulse 7' 9" med heavy for 6xd sizes.

Most of my deep cranking rods are a 4 or 5 power rod, mostly MH, but thtey get the work done. I have 3 dedicated Deep Diver rods 2 custom mades and a Dobyns CB RM. One custom is a St. Croix Avid Musky blank and the other is a Shikari P804. I like the St. Croix and the Dobyns best of all, the P804 is a little light. If I do NOT have one of those rods with me and I want to deep crank, I use an Academy Ethos 7'6" SH that has enough tip and backbone to get the job done. The Shikari and Avid were built in the early 2000's, so the 6 and 10 XD were not around them. The Dobyns is not rated for the 10XD, but it still works for it. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Heavy power moderate action for magnum cranks. Medium heavy moderate for 1 ounce cranks such as the 6XD.

Dobyn's down fall is the handles on their cranking rods are too short, IMO.

A good value is a Irod Genesis II Fred's Crank Launcher, it's under $150 and a good rod. Another good rod I like for bigger cranks is the Falcon Lowrider 20 Heavy XD Cranker.

This is what I use for 6XDs and like-size cranks. For me, though, it's not enough rod for the magnum cranks.

I throw my big cranks on a h20 ethos micro 7'10 I haven't had any issues except finding fish deep enough to throw big cranks so far this year.

I have been using a BPS 7'6" crankin rod for my 5 & 6 xd's then go to a skeet reese 7'11" magnum crankin rod for the 10xd's so far they have worked well without wearing me out.

I recently purchased the KVD Quantum Tour 7'10 Medium Heavy Cranking rod. Quantum had a special on them after KVD won at Toledo Bend. I ended up buying it for $75. Probably the best $75 I have spent on a rod. I love it for throwing 6xd's. Its a composite rod and a little heavier than my other cranking rods, but its great for distance and the sensitivity is plenty good. I figured, if they are good enough for KVD, they have to be good enough for this amateur.
