The mepps master and multi white bass champs, Mr. Dennis Christian, fished with me from 1 to 530 pm on hubbard Friday. I watched DC then imitated and we both were blessed with a fairly easy catching day and quality whites as well. DC did the fun count out loud on every fish we boated and it went up to 156 smile We did stop at count 100 at the early spot to find and go learn new structures, while fish were still thick. We left another spot biting at count 51. Then went cruising the lake scouting.

I've caught fish on mepps before but fishing with DC really boosted my confidence on the lure. I also went from braid on a spin cast to 10# mono on a baitcast reel on a light 6ft rod and that really helped with casting distance and sensitivity. Pointing the tip of my rod to my line does give a better feel to the blade spin and retrieval speed. The bigger fish were at the bottom while the smaller sporadic schoolers were on top. We both caught fish almost on every cast for about an hour. smile

But as DC stated, you still need skills to find and locate fish first. And DC is a master of finding fish on structures. He studied the topo of the lakes and is very precise on his boat position relative to his targeted structure smile

Also DC is a very patient man and very generous in sharing his technique to me. So I thought I'll do the same on here with my own perspective smile

Anyway, here are some pic memories I made with DC and hope there will be more to come smile Thank you for a fun day, Dennis laugh (Found out DC got an EE degree and a master in computer...like me? Nerds!!! Lol roflmao

You guys were having all the fun in the sun while we were just eating steak in the cool and looking at a lake east of RH, I am very glad for both of you and your success and proud to call you both friends !
If your ears were burning you were thought about.
I am going through withdrawals here but the big lake south of Texas is calling me this weekend and will be leaving in the AM.

Glad to hear you boys were on em! Sorry I missed seeing you both. My son and I had to run to the slip for trolling motor repairs around 11:00. Like you Todd, I had the opportunity to fish with Dennis a few years back and it was a treat! Hubbard wasn't fishing back then like it is now. I think we caught between 4 and 10 fish. I recall that was at one of JV's tournaments. We all learned something from Dennis! To this day I go back and forth and back and forth over a hump until I feel certain I have found fish. That is something I learned that day from Dennis. Like I said, very happy you both had a great day fishing and making memories!!

Hubbard is fishing well. If there is anyone reading this who has wanted to fish and learn about Hubbard.....call our resident guide, JV Guide Service - John Varner 214-384-5801. He will put you on fish. I saw him cleaning a load of fish for customers yesterday and today!

Stay hydrated out there!! It's HOT!!

Great time with Dennis! Few years back i had the opportunity to learn from DC at Cedar Creek. He is the true master with Mepps. Todd..moments like this only happened on TFF! Just like Larry said...great to call both of you friends! I have not wet the hooks for awhile. Looking forward to hit Tawakoni soon. Thanks for sharing.

That's funny, Gene. Do you mean #4 or #2 ??? Lol. I'll take #22 after strugling to catch 5 good sandbass a week ago in your boat when it really counted. DOH! lol.

Good luck on the coast, Larry. I know you allways do well down there. Send pics.

A few more helpful tid bits. DC and I were catching in depths 20 ft and 13ft. DC has 12# mono on both of his reels, a #4 mepps on one rod and a #2 on the other. There are early signs of schooling so stay alert and use good binocs.

Also, I fished Lavon for a couple of hours Thursday noon to test out my splasher and the 10" whites were schooling all around me. Every cast and fun to see. I was the only boat there at the power plant point. Thanks to TarponFly for the tips! smile

Also marked mother load of fish at the glass house in 25 ft from 230 to 4pm Thursday at Lavon. Splasher worked great there! Fyi for the Lavon anglers.
