I have a like new (I bought it new) Revo Premier 2. I have it spooled with Suffix Seige 14 lb on a good GLoomis 7.5 medium rod. I have given up on using it for more than trolling as nothing i do gets it casting more than 30 steps. It does retrieve slick as a whistle.
Any ideas about this expensive junk would be appreciated. I might add i started using 5000c's about '65.

I have a 5500c silver with 17lb or so tan PLine i COULD cast 50-60 steps with a fairly heavy lure, untill i put on 17 lb Siffix Seige. That new line is really THIN and SOFT. I couldnt wait to fish it. Went to the coast and it is a backlashing nightmare since the line change.

I had loosened the drag nut on the pistol grip demo reels on display at Academy 2 yr ago and i would push the release on low profile baitcasters and thumb spin the spools. The best reels would let the spool spin to a count of 10-12 except for this Diawa Megaforce black reel, red spool, wierd chrome thumb flipper do hickey sticking up in front. It would let the spool spin to a count of 19-20. I had them take it off and bought it, i think with no box iirc.

I can cast a mirrolure shedog about 68 steps with it and 12 lb clear trilene for reds in Laguna Madre where shell is no problem. I put the Suffix sSeige on it in 17lb and it now is a backlashing sucker.

Does anyone have any problems with this line or is it me?

What mono do you guys prefer?

You either have the spool set too tight, your using too light a lure, you have something weird going on with the reel, or it is you. On a 7.5" medium rod, you should be able to toss a 1.5 or 2 ounce bait 40 yards.

Deal is, ive used level wind reels 50 years. Ive had no problems with one before i got the revo premier ultrlight 2. I have several shimano green curados and no problems. I have a very old citica bantam that casts twice as far as the revo and it has World Wide camo 15 lb iirc. (That was a great line/deal until Cabelas took them on and doubled the price, btw).

I also had no problem with the silver 5500c or the diawa until i put the suffix on.

Thanks

eyeball let me throw you my 2 cents worth of advise for what it is worth from an OLD Fart that don't know what I am talking about. Braid line will bury itself in itself as you wind it up on the reel. The smaller the line diameter
the worst it is. I had the same problem with Fins Wind Tamer 20lb test. I found two ways to fix the problem that would allow me to continue using braid. (1) unspool line in the water equal or greater than the distance I would be casting then respool. the wet line did not bury as bad and came off the reel better. (2) this was my solution, spooled the reel with 30Lb test and tied on 6 to 8 ft of mono leader. The slightly larger diameter line fixed the problem. I use 12 or 14 lb leader.

I used to use Stren clear blue on most of my levelwinds. I spooled some Silver Thread on a couple of reels and had instant backlashes. And Silver Thread is a great line; I just had to get used to it. I don't know what to tell you; without having you and the reel in front of me it's just a guessing game. I can't say for sure what you are doing, or how your reel is set up. My recommendation would be to stick with it and figure it out. Sufix makes quality lines and that Revo is a premium reel. If you're anywhere near New Caney I'll be glad to meet up and see what we can figure out.

eyeball- I may be misunderstanding, but it seems your first problem is the braid is not spooled tight enough.
if it cuts into itself, it's too loose. This will also imbalance the spool to a point where the casting controls & counterweights will not be able to compensate.
also re: braid.for me, Daiwa Samurai 30# is by far the most soft, supple braid that maintains its rating over time that I've found
also go back to your manual for your reel, there is a backlash troubleshooting section that will help you set it up to work better.
That said, I dumped both revo's I owned (elite & winch) because they wouldn't cast worth chit 2 times in a row.
moved over to Daiwa zillion/steez/tatula- problem solved

hope this helps

Some folks here keep referring to braid. Am I misunderstanding you, or are you spooled up with Sufix monofilament? I was under the impression that Siege is a monofilament line.

Yes Jim, it is mono.

Sorry i didnt make that more clear before, LL.

The backlash problem was reminisent of my problems with floro. I wont be buying line spray to use it either, btw. smile

You said it yourself. "I have several shimano green curados and no problems." Stay away from Chinese made [censored]. Stick with Shimano.

Also, make sure your reel is setup properly. There are many great youtube videos explaining how it's done; my personal favorite video for this is from Matt Allen and Tim Little from Tactical Bassin. Those guys are SO knowledgeable.

You should never have issues with line management throwing mono so something is either off with your reel setup or your casting technique. Flouro is a little trickier to manage but there are some simple things you can do to help you. let me know what problems you have with your flouro management an I can give you some tips.
