I've never deep fried fish before, only pan fried to baked them. What fish fryer do you guys use/recommend? And are there any accessories or things I need to know before I get started?

Cast iron Dutch oven , peanut oil , thermometer , Louisiana brand coating ( blue label )
365 degrees . Fry till golden brown.
Double burner cooker is nice, speeds things up quite a bit.

Also get a cast iron griddle and some blackening mix.

Thanks fellas. Is it true that when the fish starts to float they're done?

Yep, they'll float in about 3 minutes or so. If it's just me and the wife eating we'll fry them in a fry daddy indoors. It does a real good job. If it's a bunch of people, I'll break out the propane burners outside on the patio. Sounds like Mo and I went to the same chef school....that's exactly how I do it. food

They will in peanut oil. Hush Puppies will flip over when they're almost done.

Do you guys use the dutch oven because it does a better job or because you can cook more fish at one time? I've been using the cheap aluminum setup from academy for years with good results but if I can improve my game I'm all in.

RV Works makes a really nice fryer. I have had one for years and love it. I have the double basket fryer. Easy to use and has built in drain.

Cast iron holds the heat better. Can fry multiple batches of fish, fries, hushpuppies without losing as much heat.

If the aluminum is working for you, no need to change. I don't think quality or taste is affected by using cast iron over aluminum.

R&V Works fish fryer will pay for itself in savings on peanut oil. I fry lots of fish thru the year in my R&V 4 GALLON FRYER and use the same oil the entire year. I will filter it after 2 to 3 uses.

I use a Fry Daddy for me and the wife. Works great. Use peanut oil and filter when done.

I bought one of these and love it. Built in drain and v bottom. Fire goes into tube in middle of grease. Best cooker I ever had.
