Question ... I have the 998 .. On the console .. Can I run an extension cable from my trolling motor (built in Trans) and switch my screen to see one or the other trans ( front of boat back of boat ) ? Basically .. Can I use 2 transducers off one unite and switch .. I know the front will only be 2-D .. I don't care about that ..

Yes, would require a TS3 switch. The switch does require power. Would allow to switch between transducers but only view one transducer at a time.

Related question. I have the same setup as the OP described, but with a 798. I can't get a signal from the 2D transducer on the Terrova. I had this transducer replaced under warranty, but it still is not working. The transducer on the transom works fine. Whichever position I put the switch in, only the transom transducer shows up. Bad switch? How do I check this?

Bad switch? How do I check this? Really the only way to test that would be another switch, which to me seems the switch has gone bad. Has it ever worked properly? Can you verify the switch is getting power? Might also try turning the unit off and on again after you switch transducers. Mine will go through this sometimes

Diesel, the switch has worked in the past. I assume the power is going through since the transom transducer is working. Wrong thinking? Anyway, I ordered another switch. Wayne, I haven't tried seeing if a direct connect will work. I'm tech challenged. No idea how to do it.

The TS3 switch is an electrical relay switch. It takes power to change from one transducer to the other. The transducer connection has nothing to do with the switching action, power does. One or the other transducer is connected to the unit depending on what position the relay is in when the selection switch is not pushed.
To direct test a transducer you disconnect it from the switch and plug the transducer plug into the unit. To do that you have to remove the display from the mount, take the cable collector apart, remove the power cord and TS3 switch plugs from the collector, and just connect the power cord and transducer to the unit without the cable collector. I used to have a 798ci SI Combo and had three mounts and extra transducers and power cords for it. One mount was on my desk to run the unit in Simulator.

Or you can also switch transducers at the switch this way you don't have to take apart cable collector to test, just plug the trolling motor transducer into the the connector that you know is working and see if you get 2d. If you still don't work then as Wayne go directly to the unit to verify for sure.

Fixed. It was the switch. Got a new one today and installed it. All working fine now. Thanks for the advice, Wayne and 44 Diesel. You were spot on as always.
