Anybody have an old rotary vise they've upgraded from they're willing to sell? Just can't justify $150+ for a Peak or something right now, so just trying to get a cheap rotary for now.

If not, have any of you used one of the cheaper ones? Is it worth just buying a new one, if nobody has a used one? Which one? I have just been using the cheap vise that Crazy Angler sells. Don't get me wrong it works, but not great. Hook slips quite a bit and I would like the rotary style just because it'll be easier to look at the jig from different directions than the way I'm doing it now. Anyway, worth a shot. Let me know what ya'll have or think. Thanks fellas!

I suggest holding out/saving up for a Peak. By the time you take into consideration what you'll spend on a "cheap one" plus what you spent on the starter vise, you're almost up to a Peak. I think Skip is a Peak dealer

Well my wife already thinks I've lost my mind, she'd probably kill me if I spent $150 on a vice! I saw some that looked ok around 50 and some closer to 100. I've only got like $15 in the one I have now so I'm not too worried about that. And I can always use it as a backup or give it to someone starting out

Well, we have lost our minds. I could have several vises, and have fun with a few vices on what I've spent on custom molds alone, not to mention the rest of the supplies and tools. I don't make a living making jigs, but it is a business for me, so quality tools are essential. I consider the Peak vise indispensable. Pretty soon I plan on getting a Rite Bobbin holder, and if I like it I will probably get a dozen of them.

You tie well. Your jigs would probably retail for between a dollar and $1.50. If you do the math, the vise will pay for itself in no time compared to if you bought jigs.

You do what you have to do, but like Jig Man and I have said, you will probably end up with a Peak. We have seen it all too often here and on other forums. We are just trying to save you some money.

Thanks fellas! And thanks for the compliment AggieKenny! I will have to bite the bullet I guess. May not be right away but I'll hold off on a new one until I can get the Peak. Thank y'all for the advise! I had a bad feeling that's what y'all were gonna tell me scared

Most of us started with cheap vises and not pretty much all of us use a Peak rotary. Except for a couple that have deep pockets and upgraded to an even more expensive vise.

I purchased that vise for tying large bucktails. Works like a champ.

Yeah that was one of the ones I looked at. I don't think that I'll use the rotary action for thread wraps and chenille much, but I would like the option and with that style the jig would spin in a circle instead of one spot if that makes sense. It did get good reviews though in a vice "shootout" article I read. They said it was built like a tank. The Atlas model was better though but the same price as peak

You would be surprised...I love the rotary for wrapping chenille, don't do thread with it. I like my Peak, but that and CA's introductory vice is all I have used. I don't tie much, mainly for just myself and swaps. And for people at work, when I bring my box and let a few crappie guys pick through and take all of the jigs I probably will never fish with, but caught a lot of fish, when I just started tying. I need to take my box up there, like I have been telling them I would.

I agree with Slab, don't discount the rotary for chenille, it's pretty handy. But if you don't plan on using the spinner (get the D handle if you do) Peak also makes a non-rotary, and I think it is a little more economical. But again, I still recommend the rotary vise.

I love my Renzetti traveler! I got it for $10...well...I had to tie a wooly bugger...BLINDFOLDED to win it....AWESOME vise! I use my Regal base as mine only had the C-clamp...I have two Regal vices too, that are good, but not rotary.

Fly tier (yeah, I can fly fish...but the fish don't like frothy water!)

Wish I'd seen this a few months back. I gave away my rotary peak (free).

Too cumbersome for me. I've also bought their non-rotary and am unsatisfied with it. For my tying style, their just too bulky at the jaws.

If you want a non-rotary Peak, I'll sell it for $50 (delivered).
