Hi All,

I'm planning to tow my camper to Cypress Springs for the weekend. I'll be fishing Saturday evening and Sunday. I've never fished the lake, so I'm looking for some tips to get me started in the right direction. I've read about the docks on the lake and will plan to hit those. Any idea if they are shallow or deep right now? If I could find some fish for my wife and 9 year old daughter to catch, that would be a big bonus. Any help appreciated.

You really shouldn't have much trouble find fish given the huge population of spotted bass in the lake. Since you are fishing over the weekend the real issue will be staying away from the waves that will be coming from every direction from the ski boats and jet skis. Our lake has retaining walls on 90% of the banks so the boats create a washing machine effect on the weekends and holidays.

If you are staying in Walleye Park, you can fish back in any of those 3 finger creeks and stay away from them for the most part. In the middle of those 3 fingers there are some really good deep docks on the left hand side as you make your way in. The creek channel runs really close to a couple of them. The 3rd finger closest to the dam also will have some fish in those pockets. They seem to never leave there year round.

If you want to brave the washing machine run a little West and fish some of the points. This time of year the spots can be loaded on them and can be caught with a c-rig with any bait that has a little charteuse in it. I normally throw WM based baits with the tails dipped. Specifically a HooDaddy Jr in Ultimate Green or Green Pumpkin/Chartruese Pepper. Nearly impossible to not catch some spots doing this in those areas right now.

I'll be there tomorrow-Monday. Wave if you see a red/white skeeter 21i ! Points and docks is what I'll be fishing. Dropshot and shaky heads. 6" watermelon red truck work with tail dipped chart.

You guys are awesome!!! I'll be in a Silver/Black/Maroon Skeeter ZX21 with power poles. I'm taking the tube to pull the kids around some during the day. If the waves are too bad, they'll get tired of that quickly. laugh

Good Luck Ronnie. If I see you I will swing by and say Hi.

I fished there Mon - Wed. Caught at least 25 per day, most during the morning bite from 5:45 until 10:00. Unfortunately most were small but your wife and daughter should really have fun.
Topwater right against the seawalls very early produced lots of blow ups. Then plastics against the sea walls and around docks produced lot of bites. Late evening saw a few larger fish.
Will not be there this weekend but good luck, I am sure things will be changing with this heat. Let us know how it goes.

These are some terrific responses to a member who simply wants to get into some fish. I'm proud of all three of you for giving TwoLakes some solid recommendations for getting on the fish.

Had a club tourney out there yesterday.
Lots and lots of small spots biting.
I did end up with 4 small largemouth and one spot for 7.48# total stringer.
Winner had 12
3xd and 5xd on main lake points, crig brush hogs and top water early were the patterns.

Buzz a rage toad against the sea walls and Banks early and you'll get some better fish....just enough speed to make it work

Anybody fishing the far west end in the lily pads? Is it worth an early morning try?

The lily pads can be good. Work the front edges with a frog and a swim jig and the holes with a frog or senko

Well; I went, I fished and I did not conquer! Caught a few small fish, one nice 3 pounder but it is tough! Fished 4 days and it got tougher each day. Wish I could share a tip.
Will be back in two weeks, any other reports or help would be great.

14 pounds for 1, 13.5 for 2nd.
Full moon, suspended fish. Lots of boat traffic. Terrible conditions for fishing. I did a lot of cleaning on the lot, and put out a couple brushpiles. Fishing sucked.

Parents have the lot next to tall tree Marina with the RV's on it. First dock on the right when you leave the Marina.

Skip a weighted green pumpkin wacky worm under deeper docks.

The day after catching a lot of fish is still a good day.

Ronnie, I have a place in Kings Country. Cove where the community boat slips are. If you see the red 190zx out of the slip I am likely on the lake. Give me a shout out if you fish by and I am there.

Why are there so many fewer lighted boat docks on Cypress than there have been the last few years? I can't figure out if it's just coincidence or a concerted effort to discourage night fishermen. I'm not just talking about submerged lights but above water lights as well.

Talked to a dock owner the other night about this and his light was on but it was going to turn off at about 10. He stated that very few docks are lighted full time almost like it was discussed and decided on by the owners to not leave them on. Best Guess. Most(95%)of the lighted docks had people on them making noise and swimming on a few.

The year-round residents do not like their neighbors having lights on. My neighbor across the cove specifically came over to ask that I turn the lights off when not there. I do have low voltage lights along the seawall. I guess the bugs have a lot to do with it this time of year also!

It's peaceful without all the lights on. The only time that wakeboard boat ridden lake is peaceful

Bugs are terrible. The spiders build a new network of webs every night. WIth the lights left on all night it is insane how many bugs are left to litter the dock.

The good news is if you can find some isolated lighted docks close to deep water this time of year you can sometimes find the stacked up. Ease in quiet, start fishing out a ways first. The bass will tend to stage up just outside the glow. Then move in.

You can put me on the interested in buying list for that piece of property.

I believe this. There's no way it is just coincidence that so many dock owners simultaneously decided to turn off their lights.

I fished Hawkins at night three times in the last month and it is the darkest lake I have ever seen.

25 years ago dock owners were required to have a light and run it all night. Back then there weren't as many docks but they were all lit up. when we bought our place we were told we had to leave the light on. But we noticed several docks were dark at night. so we started turning ours off when we went to bed. The clean up the next morning wasn't as bad. Bugs are crazy in the summer around them lights.
