If you are looking for an alternative to the permanently mounted rod holder, try these - http://www.carolinarodholders.com

If you only need a rod holder part of the time and don't want something you screw to your deck or fiberglass, these are a great solution. I ordered 2 of the Double Cleat Mates, then just recently came back and ordered 2 of the larger ones with a 2" tube.

They are custom made to fit your cleat and mine fit perfectly.

I saw them online and was wondering if they could be used for trolling. What do you think?

Neat product, will be ordering some soon...from the videos look like they are strong enough for trolling....dont see any reason you couldnt use them for that..

Will be ordering next pay day. Good idea and like how they are custom looking.

Haven't done it yet, but the way they fit my cleats, I think they would work well for trolling. That's one of the reasons I bought them.

I was wondering if they will scratch my boat? I like the idea and the price.

Mine don't touch the fiberglass - only the metal on the cleat.

One thing I wondered about was if they could come loose. A fish would actually have to jump over your boat for the rod holders to come loose.
