So I am on a short family vacation staying on Lake Conroe. Have found zero useful information on fishing the lake. I have never been on this lake. So I got a map and headed out exploring. I hit a few areas around bridges that looked good but nothing. Tried cranks and spinnerbaits. Fished around a few docks and still got nada.

I know this is not much of a report. Water temp is 85 degrees and stained to muddy color. I did try several lures but only managed blue gill taps. I was fishing the docks around April Sound and Harbor Point. I saw several brush piles around these docks but no active fish were interested in my offering if they were holding there. So many areas that look promising and little time to scout them all out.

I ran the the very back of a creek and saw a lure hung in a tree. It was a white swimming jig with a white zoom fluke as a trailer. I got the lure out of the tree and it looked brand new. I tied it on and started casting around some brush. Next thing ya know... WHAM!

This was pretty much my morning. It is so hot and humid right now. Will head back out later this evening.

Any tips on Conroe appreciated.

Jesse, I have never fished there but when I bought my boat in Beaumont the dealer said there were brushpiles all along the dam area.

I'm no conroe expert, and haven't been on the lake since the spring, but generally this time of year you're looking for offshore brush piles in 14-16' of water. Use your graph and start checking any points till you find the brush. Good luck, hot out there right now!

I live 30 minutes from Conroe and I don't fish it. Without ANY vegetation, it just doesn't match my style of fishing. I have always heard, find the brush piles and you will find the fish. If you like to flip docks, Conroe is the lake for you.

45 minutes from the lake, don't fish it either, same as Rayzor. When we did used to we fished Scotts Ridge area or near StowAway a lot, and of course brushpiles. I had a friend ride with Ike at the TTBC one year, said he went to 25-30 piles a day, casted 5-6 times and went to next and did this all day.

I was out there yesterday afternoon. Nothing. I caught two little ones Monday fishing a lizard under docks. Both trips were after work in the heat of the day, but I kind of expected not to catch much. Being new to the lake I'm trying to find the best spots to fish but then again I probably need to get an earlier start! I'm new to freshwater fishing and its a whole different ballgame. Any tips for Conroe for a newbie would be greatly appreciated. I guess I should start looking for lures in trees!

Conroe was tough to fish way back when we lived in Houston. Texas style worms, your favorite color will get a few bass.

All about hitting as many brush piles as you can in a day. Fish are in them.

I also live less than an hour from the lake and don't fish it.
So this is where the Bassmaster Classic is going to be held?
What's up with that?

Conroe has some big bass in it! Figuring out how to catch them is the hard part... This time of the year I only night fish it because during the day there is just too much boat traffic. The lake frustrates a lot of anglers because there is no grass in it. Stop beating the bank and get off shore, keep moving around until you get bit. Cannot wait for the Classic to see how the pro's figure them out!

Wackey rig a black trick worm and skip it as far back in the shadows of the docks as you can. C-rig the same worm and crankbaits on the brush piles. No doubt some big fish there, but so many other lakes are more enjoyable, especially when they're not biting.

Good luck.

Offshore!! There have been huge bass caught every week in the Tuesday night tourneys. They only weigh 3 bass limits in these tourneys and there have been many huge bags, including a 25 plus lb stringer last week. That's 3 fish!!!
