Just curious the percentage of guys that fish just because of the competition.

If they stopped having tournaments, would you sell your boat?

I don't ever see them doing away with tournaments. It is to much of a economy boost for local communities around the lakes.

I would keep my boat and fun fish, but my addiction of wanting a new rig every time I see one pass by would go away.

I would buy 2 since all the fish gambling people would have to find something else to gamble on- as you probably know , tournament fishing is not found in Texas under the fishing laws but under the gambling laws- 47.01 in the law book

I do like to fish tournaments but that's not the reason why I bought a boat in the first place.

While a tournament might cause a brief economic boost at the local motel, loaf and jug, and diner, I doubt that it is significant. A big event maybe a little more but it is brief. Fishing is not football or Olympics and relatively speaking has a very small following, just look at the amount of fishing coverage there is on ESPN or FOX sports, only odd hours and not very often. I think in the long run tournaments are very detrimental to fisheries and will have an eventual negative effect on economies as the lake becomes less productive due to over pressure. There are a very few exceptions like Fork that are legendary and will always draw a crowd but many just get fished to death and go by the wayside. Just one guys $.02

See you on the lake and have a great day!
