I started boxing Thai Boxing 6 years ago to get in shape and LOVE it. I did Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for a while but was never endeared to it like I did the striking arts. (I do the best I can at my age with all the young guys in their teens through 30s, I am not some tough guy. I just really like it very much.)

I suppose some guys get into it because of the popularity of the UFC and MMA. I just took the classes because they were very challenging physically and mentally and it works your cardio like nothing else.

So..........what kind of martial art do you do?

long time ago, japanese jiu jitsu. wish I had the time to get back into it. I can only find one place that teaches it.

I got up to a 3rd or 4th degree black belt in Taekwondo, but that was almost 15 years ago. Does that count?

When my daughter gets of age, I plan on signing up with her. I want to get back that flexibility I had when I was 7 and 8 in karate.

ronnie, i did Jukido Jiu Jitsu for a summer. it was fun and fairly practical. Just did not give me the cardio I wanted.

dave. TKD may not have great punches but I have sparred TKD fellas and they have crazy fast kicks from all angles and their spinning moves are tremendously powerful.

bass bustin, i am afraid it is quite difficult to even come close to one's flexibility when they were young. but it is always cool to try.

Shoot, I reach for my toes each day....main objective to start the day! Like a cat! smile

I think Yoga might be cool too....some of that stuff amazes me.

agree BBT, I have done yoga as PT after I fractured my sacrum. It is really hard. Also my flexibility was increased a lot. Very good for preventing injury due to tight muscles.

Resurrecting an old one here. I take Kenpo karate and really enjoy it. Started later in life and earned my black belt last year at 47 y/o. It can be very good exercise at times but there are some classes where we do more standing and working techniques. Picking yourself up off the mat a bunch of times in a hour is actually a heck of a workout for body movement.

I also take some kickboxing and cross training classes at the UFC gym near my house.

I have no desire to get in a cage either but these workouts are really great and you can learn some good stuff in a martial arts school.

I do jiu jitsu and boxing/kick boxing. I got into it because I love competition and jiu jitsu seemed like a natural fit coming from a wrestling background. I will admit coming from wrestling I thought it would be easy...hahah, think again. These jiu jitsu guys tangled me up like a pretzel more times than I want to count! Its pretty amazing what a small guy can do to a big guy with the correct technique.

very nice fellas. I have found the older I get the harder it is to go 4 times a week. I go 2-3 times now as my body just does not recover from all the beatings. y'all have that prob or are you tougher than me?

yeah I have a hard time getting over some of the falls and stuff we do. Actually tore a tendon in my rotator cuff last year doing BJJ and it really took a long time to get right. Didn't require surgery but I did a lot of therapy type exercises and I am still a little gun shy to really get crazy on the mat.

Sometimes I start aching from it, but I have found that the more water I drink the less I hurt and that the more consistently I show up the more my body becomes used to it. Seems like after a holiday where I missed a week that the first few days back I can barely walk.
