I'm pretty new to crappie fishing and figured one of you experienced guys could answer this... Catfish and bass tend to move into newly flooded areas when the water is high. How does high water effect crappie this time of year? Would you look for them in the temporarily flooded shallows or in the usual areas?

They should be deeper now. I am assuming that you are talking about LOP. They have been on timber and brush piles in the 12-18' range on that lake. I hope this helps.

Absolutely.

Most fish will stay in their deeper summer homes as Texmedic033 says, but there are fish that will move shallow especially if there is shad around. I have been catching a lot of fish in newly flooded cover in 3-8 feet of water in recent weeks. The fish in the pic are from last week. A lot of it depends on the lake too.

Try fishing the shallow cover, you may be surprised.

The problem with LOP shallow cover is that it has been flooded for a couple months and the water is receding.

We have been catching the snot outta the crappie on flooded buck brush and willows in 9-11 ft of water since April. They're still there. . .
