My wife and I caught two limits about two months or so ago. I filleted with electric and she stood beside me and cut out the red meat with a knife. Purged them a couple times in icy salt water, then froze them in water. Everyone says they don't freeze well. A month later we thawed them out and had a fish fry. We had crappie, yellow bass and sand bass. Other than the white fillets being slightly thicker, they were every bit as tasty as the yellow bass and crappie.

100,000 dead white bass might help.....5000 won't do anything I bet.....but I'd likely participate.

Hopefully everyone will share info where they are stacked up with fellow competitors, since the goal is to get some out of the lake.

A couple 25 foot toons with 6-8 people on them could do some damage in a day!

I agree. Properly prepared, I cannot taste the difference.

With regard to disposing of them. I am willing to bet the local churches will help with that.

I am not proposing that we clean the fish. Ice them down and send them off with folks. It would benefit everyone around the lake.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

do it legal guys. TPWD considers them a game fish and will write tickets for wasting a resource just the same if you dump a black bass on a ramp.

And we will probably be in too. I love to eat them.

Don Hampton has been putting on a sand bass tournament for the last several years out of Bro's (Fisherman's One Stop) in August.

Last year I believe they didn't catch enough (sand bass) to feed the 35 entrants and had to add catfish to the fish fry.

You pull this off and I'm in. Anybody willing to do that much work deserves all the support we can give him.

Understood. We cannot let them spoil. I am proposing that we donate them to needy families that show up at weigh in. That is one of the reasons I want to see how much interest there would be in doing this. I have a couple guys working on that now with a couple of the local churches down there. Each team would be responsible for keeping their fish in "edible" condition by icing them down.

I have emailed Don and also texted Mark Howard. We'll see who is interested in doing this.

Have fillet knife will travel...... grin
I know of one marina that would put on a fish fry right on the spot....
It really don't take long to fillet a sandbass, I can do one with a good elec knife in about 40 seconds..

I'll donate my knife for the event, sounds like a great reason to roll up on some sandbass, and have a great G2G afterwards..
I'll help in anything you need Ken, count us in... for a couple of these if it fly's...
