realmad i've done hundreds of lures with d2t epoxy and have always gotten a great finish. never had a problem of any kind until yesterday. did everything the same way as i normally do to prepare, paint and finish a lure but when they came out of the dehydrator they were pock-marked with zillions of little craters from air bubbles. they looked fine going in but looked awful when they came out. tossed that tube of d2t and will try another batch tonight. glad these were for us and not going to someone else.

Humidity is thru the roof these days maybe that's the root cause of the bubbles...you would think a dehydrator would solve the problem??? Maybe not. I tossed a couple of bottles of BSI epoxy just yesterday. Couldn't see the problem until the two parts were mixed....they had thick globs of epoxy in them that would not brush out???

hi bois. i think it may have been a combination of the humidity and adding a few drops of denatured alcohol to the mix to thin it. i dug the d2t out of the trash and mixed up another batch without the alcohol and it worked fine. who knows? two of the baits that bubbled went to port mansfield over the weekend and i'm not sure they survived. the other one i sanded with some wet/dry tosmooth out the surface and recoated with a thin layer of d2t. looks ok. originally masked off everything from the gills forward and painted it bone. then used detail sepia to tint the back and the clear nose. sort of a ghost head bone body top water. don't know if it will catch anything but i really like how it looks.

I'm sure you already know that too much alcohol in D2T is a bad thing frown. After I stir the mix up I cup my hand over the mixing cup and lightly exhale into it a few times...bubbles rise to the surface and pop...really! Got this tip off TU site. Some of the guys on that site are lure making rocket scientists!! Really like the pattern you put down on that blank...ghosting just a section of the blank thumb Sepia is an awesome color isn't it. I use it a lot these days...thanks for the tip.

I don't think that bait will catch anything, but I'll go ahead ad take it off your hands so you don't waste anytime throwing it. banana

did several more baits with the d2t. the first three were fine and then another batch with bubbles. no alcohol added this time. sanded the bubbles down and recoated with a really thin coat of d2t without problems.
