The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?

Following, I'm starting to fish the Sabine myself.

I have spent many hours feeding many different species of fish.........and on occasion land a few.

Well we went for about 3 hours yesterday evening, used catapala worms, shrimp, and night crawlers for bait...caught about 10 with only 2 keepers. One of the keepers was a 20" flathead, caught on a night crawler...is that kinda odd?...we had a great time just being on the river...May do an overnight trip this weekend.I think I'd like to wake up and make coffee on a sandbar somewhere...might have to pull the father's day card.Haha

Back in college we used to go out there every April for an annual camp out/bragging tournament. I couldn't even begin to tell you where we launched (we were outside of Deadwood) but we did well running limb lines with your typical catfish bait. Shad, perch, worms, etc... We never really used punch baits as the current was too strong. We would find either an eddy or a log jam, fix our lines, then move on to the next one. Although we never got any big fish, we got a ton of perfect eating size fish.

I haven't been back there since college, but man, talk about beautiful.

It sure is, I ask myself why I don't get on the river more? I'm only ten minutes from it....as much fishing as we do as a family, my boy's talk about the river more than any thing...during the sand bass run I'll get a bucket of chicken and pick them up from school.we'll run up river and get on a sand bar. They will just go hog wild...I'm trying to hold on to it all. Theyr growing up so fast.
