Kinda of new to fishing and looking into getting me some jigs. Looks like there are several to choose from though.

Flipping
Finesse
Football
Swim

What is each one for??

If I were to start with an all around jig which one would it be??

Also if there is a site with the info please share the link.

Thanks

Each jig has it's place, but I find myself using a flipping jig 90% of the time. It's the most versatile jig if you ask me.

Fin Junkie Flipping Jig

This jig is great for anything and everything. It's good for grass, docks, timber, rocks, you name it. It's a high quality jig and there's a color out there that will suit you well anywhere you go. This would be my first choice as a beginner.

Jewel Bait Eakins Jig

A finesse jig can be fished in the same places as a flipping jig, but it's more suited for finicky fish and high pressured lakes. It's nice, subtle size is great for imitating small crawfish or bluegill. Any time when you aren't getting a bite, tie one of these on.

Revenge Swim Jigs

A swim jig is best suited for when you're trying to imitate a swimming craw, bluegill, or shad. It's great swimming around docks, timber, grass, pads, anything you can find. Just cast it out and reel it in. Every now and then I like to give the bait a little "pops" with the rod. This swim jig is a great choice for you and it's made in the USA.

Dandy Baits Football Jig

A football jig is a fantastic choice for when you need to keep in contact with the bottom in deep water. This particular jig is especially great at coming through rocky terrain easily. This is your best choice for offshore fishing during the Winter and Summer. Lotso f sizes and colors to choose from with this jig.

I suggest you pick one of each as it's hard to pick just one for all conditions. If I HAD to pick just one, it'd be a flipping jig. Stick with a 3/8 or 1/2 ounce size in green pumpkin or black/blue and you'll quickly build a lot of confidence.

Good luck!

pick up a strike king 1/2 ounce green pumpkin jig at the local walmart. put a green pumpkin candy craw trailer on it and go throw it in some brush (deep or shallow) on 20# fluorocarbon line. get good with it, and you can learn how to adapt your presentation in other areas over time. dont get caught up in "brands".. the hook quality and head design are important. the wrong line tie will make the jig hang up on everything and you will lose a ton ( i know this for a fact).

an arkie style head with recesses line tie seems to go through most anything. rocks will give you the most trouble, as the jig falls in the cracks between them. Use a lighter jig with bulkier trailer so it's less likely to fall in the cracks.

I like the Viper XP jigs for pitching. Because of the head design it also works as a swim jig. I pitch to all types of cover.
A finesse jig is just that a scaled down version usually with a round head.
A football head is made for dragging in areas void of thick grass, and timber. You can fish them in that cover but you will get hung up more than with a flipping or grass jig type.

3 Colors I would start with are black/blue/purple, green pumpkin, and peanut butter n jelly.

Santone, make a great jig in just about any configuration that you would need.

If I were to choose one to start with, which Santone would you recommend?

No need in buying $4 jigs to learn how to fish one or to determine if jig fishing is right for you. You can pick up regular old jigs at Wal Mart for $2, stings a little less when you lose 5 in a day. If you decide jig fishing is for you, then start looking at different brands and designs to figure out which one best fits the way you fish. thumb Good luck!

Listen to this advice. I learned the hard way. Spent some money buying different types of jigs trying to learn jig fishing. I ended up figuring out my local Walmart had Boo Yah rattling jigs on sale and used those after loosing a lot of SK and Santones during my learning phase. Once you get the technique down, find a brand you like and stock up!
