If there is anything good about a coral snake it is that they do not have fangs. But have raspy teeth and have to bite and shake to inject the venom. A calloused hand might have a chance, but the 4 year old boy one town away that was playing with the pretty worms did not. True story.

Same area for both snakes?
Very cool snakes there- some herpetologists trying to find coral snakes go their whole lives without ever seeing one, or so I've heard. That second pic is an awesome example.

The first snake was on the bank of the nueces river near crystal city. The coral snake was on the bank of the frio river near derby. Thats the fifth one I've seen there in 20yrs.
