I bought some CJ's punch bait and keep losing the bait. For some reason I even read the directions. That's a 1st! I got a treble hook 4 ot on. took the treble hook and put it on 1 side of the tub twist it to get more on and use a stick to press onto hook better. Any suggestions?

Pick up a flat piece of aluminum or a putty knife. Works better than a stick to pack it on

When you say losing the bait do you mean when you cast? Or you lose it as it sits in the water? If it's when you cast then the bait is either too thick or too thin. you can use vegetable oil to thin it out or flour to thicken it up. It needs to be the consistency of peanut butter to really hold the hook. If it's being lost as it sits in the water, that's how it's supposed to work. The bait dissolves slowly and creates a "chum line" that will bring fish to it. However, if bait is sitting long enough to completely dissolve and you aren't getting bit then there are likely no fish there to be caught.

"Life is a matter of luck and the odds of success are in no way enhanced by extreme caution." - Erich Topp, German U-boat Commander, 1943.

When in doubt, set the hook.

Use your stick to push the hook to the bottom on one side of the bucket. Then pull it out by the line at a 45 angle. That will load the hook. If there is too much trim it with your stick. Try to keep as much water out of the as you can.

Thanks for the tips! It worked on Sunday. Rod and reel. And CJ'S Punch Bait, Thanks CJ for my 1st time use of your Punch Bait and 1st big catfish on rod and reel. Not only did your Punch bait got this catfish hooked it got me hooked as well. I sent Charlie and picture yesterday. Crazy thing of the story is.... I was using 2 poles, one was my wife's pole with a "coffee grinder reel and 20 lb braided line. a heard it clicking so I let it take it and adjusted the drag and just barely gave it a tug and POP! WTH!! must had been a poor tie on my part. So I decided to check the pole I call "the fence post pole" (short older than me rod and reel pole) I checked it bait was gone. (as I was told in the pervious post by forum members. SO I redbaited and through 20 yard down from the catfish as pictured. Ok, so let's regroup here. So I retied my wives pole I was using on Fathers Day smile so I threw it out. Backed both poles drags off. Decided, hey it will be a while before anything happened. I put a worm on my bass pole and throw a couple times. As soon as I turned away, I heard big clicking noise from the "fence post pole", ahh chit!! I picked it up tightened the drag up a bit and "Jack it's on now"! then I quit feeling it. DAMN!!! so I kept reeling and was waiting on the line to come out of the water broken..... NOPE!!! Hell yea, it must had been swimming towards me. SO let's fight some more! So I yelled for my boy down from me by 100 yards or more. He came running, I said at least come see what it looks like before something happened. He came up, (I think he peed on himself) I said Jr. It's Father's Day today right? Yea, Dad? Watch and learn Jr. LMAO So fought it out for only 5 minute's. Had him hold the pole, while I got in the water and reached my hand for it's gills, fought a little bit. While boy held the pole while I was in the water. Got one hand in the gill, got the other hand in, climbed up wet shoes up the muddy grassy embankment. Damn that was fun!! I picked up the fish to take a picture and looked in it's mouth something that looked like a line was in there. CHIT!!! That was the green braided line off my wives pole!!! What the heck!! So, on Sunday, started drinking beer earlier than normal!! cheers Now the fun part get out the knife and fillet and invite LOTS of friends over to eat some FRESH catfish!! Truly a day to remember with my boy and my wives pole!(while she worked) hey, at least I got her leader and hook back! clap Thanks again CJ'S Punch Bait and all members on this forum that help each other out! cheers fish

Nice! You might want to send that picture to Charles. He might post that on his web page for CJ's bait.

Well, going to go try to grab another big cat tomorrow. My fishing solunar time guide shows Sunday for 33%. We will see, I just use that to prove to myself, I'll still to try to pull out a good catch. I'll put CJ's Punch bait to work in the morning. banana

I was taught by a catfish pro to add some dryer lint to the punch or dough bait and it will then stay on the hook. It works! I have added it to secret 7 and cj's and works like a champ. You just have to mix it in really well so it is consistent.
