23p Tempest A41 and A45 w/no vent holes, thinking about having vents drilled in one of them OR have 24p Predator repitched to 23p?

18.5' Nitro pre Tracker, hull is same as Skeeter Starfire, 2.0L Black Max 150 w/1.87 lower unit, manual 6" jackplate set 3" below pad.

Currently running 22p LaserII...update, it is a 22p Quicksilver 2000..... cupped small hub with exhaust ring, great holeshot, breaks and revs to about 3500 rpm lifting rear of boat then hooks up and on plane but wants to run 6200 rpm WOT, slighty over the suggested 6000 for this motor.

I haven't been able to get on the lake yet, waiting on carb parts, and am wondering which prop would be best to have worked in the meantime.

your running a 22p laser II ??
that's a v4 (4.25") gear case.

the tempest is a v6 (4.75") gear case.

as far as a predator.. i wouldn't touch it. welded on blades are known for coming off.

Thanks, the Laser....update, acually a Quicksilver 2000 is a small hub and has an exhaust ring on it, actually works very well unless I am loaded down. I am leaning toward having PVS holes drilled in the A41 Tempest(fixed hub) so I will have more tuning with it once I get back on the water and keep the A45 stock and then dial in which ever seems to work the best keeping the other for a spare.....and then I can sell the collection of props I have accumulated!

I have heard that about the Predator, definately scared me! Some guys really like it for performance but I will stick with the Tempest's if they will work. Thanks again!

Predator was good in it's day, but that day was a looong time ago. Get with Steve, I'm not convinced the tempest is the right prop for that 2.0 motor, a yamaha M wheel might let it run a little better and lift that old nitro.

Cool, thanks!
I have been going by memory on these props....and apparently mine isn't as good as it used to be! I pulled all the props out of the back of the shed and what I thought was the Laser II 22p small hub w/exhaust ring is actually a Quicksilver 2000 small hub with exhaust ring.

I have the A45 Tempest 23p, has square/rectangular vents.

What I thought was an A41 Tempest is a large fixed hub 23p Laser II with square vents....very similiar to the Tempest in design.

Also have a 22p High 5, I remember it not running well on my setup.

My carb parts are due this week so I will wait and run these and log how they run to get some idea if a Yamaha might be better before I put any money into them.

the a45 tempest can be modified to accept the pvs plugs.
weld up the slots and drill the holes.. no biggie.

the laser II and tempest plus props are completely different.

Pat is right on those older engines, the yamaha pro series is a very good prop.

Thanks Steve and Pat, that gives me a better idea of what to do! I'm selling the Predator, High Five and a 17p Vengeance I somehow ended up with and looking or trading for a 23p Yamaha M series. Then I'll try the Tempest, Yamaha and Laser II and decide which 2 to keep and which to dial in. Thanks again for the info!

21 might be the right number. That motor really needs to turn six grand at WFO.

Originally had a 21p mercury SS prop from the factory and no jackplate, ran ok but knew it could do better, added 6" jackplate and put motor 3.5" below pad and WOT was way over 6000 rpm, changed to 22p Quicksilver 2000 (currently best prop without load so far) and got WOT rpm down to 6200....summertime. Want to bring them down a bit more so its not too high in cooler weather. Tryed 25p Yamaha M2, too much pitch for it, terrible holeshot and onlt 5200-5300 WOT. The 24p Predator is a little better but still too much so I am settling in on a 23p, if nothing else I have the QS2000 to fall back on but it is already cupped a lot so I don't think I can get the rpm down with it. All round it is great and holeshot is really great, I just have to watch rpm's.....and put a different prop on if I have more than 2 people in the boat....

sounds like your on the right track.

just remember.. stock props are just that. stock.

takes some prop tuning to get the most out of your setup.
