Many of you (like myself) have gone to one of the motor-drive steering trolling motors for their anchoring ability. If you are having an issue with the mounting of these units or are having damage occur due to contact while launching, loading or docking I would like to offer up the following possible solution.

http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/11664834#Post11664834

I don't know how many of you visit that section so I posted it up here as well. Mods - if you need to move or delete, I understand. I was just trying to share with fellow Crappie fishermen because I know we use these trolling motors and some may have issues with theirs.

I have seen it. It's cool.

I have an xi5, but don't need it because of how much higher my bow is. I have probably been with him 20 times before he built that and every time loading was a pain due to that thing hitting the rollers. Good job Nitro.

I got my Liftsavertmount in 1 day after ordering it and Ron has been great in assistance for whatever questions I had for it. I haven't been able to mount it yet due to ordering some sheet non skid that's going on the bow before the tmotor and mount. So far I'm pleased with the purchase.

Very nice Ron thumb
I went out with Txmedic the other day, loved how the XI5 worked cheers
Wish my Ulterra would stay that close, only in high winds does it hold tight
Only had issues with it hitting the trailer one time while unloading at the steep ramp on Holly Lake

I second that. Got my new one installed yesterday and to say Ron is a perfectionist is an understatement!

Ron knows a thing or two about installing a trolling motor. He also knows a thing or two on how to fabricate a bracket to eliminate damage to your trolling motor. I may have to hire him to help me out around the shop. Yes he is a perfectionist.

Here is your motor Bobcat!

Sorry, a little dense this morning. I'm thinking about putting an Xi5 on my Lund. Someone please explain to me what it is that I might hit the motor on. My Lund sits pretty high and certainly nothing on my trailer would be in the way...I think. Help!!

I didn't think mine would hit either Guy but when the nose drops coming off the trailer my Xi5 would hit the bow roller. It doesn't now.

Mine sits up pretty high also,, so it doesn't hit. Rons boat was doing it every time though.

Thank you for the kind words Floyd, Bobby and David. I appreciate your business and we will have to go fishing soon to do some product testing (another excuse to go fishing). I am still trying to perfect this crappie fishing.

Guy - some boats don't need them if they sit up high enough but others will hit the bow roller every time you launch (like mine WAS). Some boats will hit occasionally depending on how deep you back the trailer in. The worst is when you think you are okay and you are launching with a cross wind which blows the back end of your boat sideways which pivots the TM right over your bow roller as it is dropping off the trailer. Hopefully all that happens is a little scratched plastic or you break the cover plate off and you don't catch and break off the TM skeg. I also watched a boat with a Terrova that was tied off to a dock that was bouncing up and down (due to the boat wakes) and each time it came down it was banging on the dock/TM and before I could get to it to help hold it off the dock, it had broke the skeg and spider cracked the gel-coat around the mounting holes. The guy was getting his truck/trailer to load the boat and was truely sick when he saw the damage that happened.

I also would like to point out that it not only lifts and retracts the TM to reduce the chance of damage when launching or docking but also serves as a more secure mounting platform for the TM itself. On most installations, you can only use four screws to mount to your boat so you generally only have approximately 16 square inches of mounting surface near the edge of the boat. With my base plates, you have approximately 140 square inches of mounting surface to help distribute the load and torque from the motor as well as when you are traveling across the lake (I know of three units that are sitting at the bottom of local lakes when they busted off the front end of boats while they were on plane). The larger plate also allows you to cover all the existing holes from other previous installs and allows you to pivot the motor to some degree to allow you to get the control head to be within the boat sides.

If you would like to see it sometime or need any additional info, just pm me.

I like the mount I just wish there was a faster way to remove it. I need an almost instant way to remove/install it.

Remove four 1/4" nuts and the mount lifts off the quick detach plate.

I did look at incorporating some kind of release but all it did was add cost and I wanted something that would never fail and possibly lose a trolling motor.

I understand. I might have to go with one of the puck style. I need something that can be taken off with the quickness and leaves the smallest foot print when detached. I might have to yank that sucker off and lay it in the bottom of the boat at a moments notice. I like your product and if I had a different style boat I would definitely get one...heck I still might lol.

Here are a few pictures from a 2014 Bass Cat Pantara (SP?) II

'Up' Position

'Down' Position

Front 'Up' Position - note how he was able to shift the unit so the head is completely within the boat side while still covering and using all the existing holes in his boat.

Ralph painted an un-finished unit and I think it looks nice (just use a Self-Etching Primer).

I really appreciate your business kind sir. I hope the combo gives you many years of successful fishing.

Thanks Ron. I took it out today for the first time and it worked perfectly. It is a solid mount as long as the thumb screws are used. Without the thumb screws, it flexes a little but with them, it doesn't move at all. Just wish the fish were more cooperative.

A slide bracket will not fully retract the Xi5 because of the bulbous nose that sticks below, it still leaves nearly 7 inches of the TM hanging out over the side of the boat. Believe me, I looked into one before I developed the LiftSaver and it would not work. That is why this one 'Lifts' and Retracts the TM to clear the nose. These 'Slide' brackets are not recommended for the MK Ulterras.

I guess the previous post was deleted before I could reply.

I am also now offering a Black Powder Painted option.

As well as the 'Un-finished' version.

Both units show the Quick Detach Option and I will soon be offering a 'Basic Unit'. I will update my website soon (having issues with the provider).

Any videos of this in use? I just had one installed and it really flexes when my Ulterra is at higher speeds. I mean like flexes 30 degrees or more.

Are you saying the shaft of the trolling motor is flexing thirty degrees? Are you saying that where it's mounted is flexing?

I know Ron has some videos somewhere on here. Let me see if I can find one he has posted.

Are you saying the shaft of the trolling motor is flexing thirty degrees? Are you saying that where it's mounted is flexing?

I know Ron has some videos somewhere on here. Let me see if I can find one he has posted.

I looked at it again on the boat lift at the dock. I don't think I had the pin pushed in all the way. So I pushed it in but it's dark so I'll try it again tomorrow if weather permits. With all the praise for this device, it's probably my own stupidity and I'll let you guys know.

I tried it again today with the pin in all the way, and it is solid as a rock!

Glad to hear and I saw the installation on your boat and it looked really good. Looks like Hunter with Outdoor Specialties did a great job. That is a really sharp looking boat as well!!! (Do you mind if I post up a picture of your boat?)

If you ever have any issue with the LiftSaver, you can contact me direct at 469-853-5389 (Ron) and I would be happy to help you out any way I can. If you cannot find my number in the future you can always find my contact information on my website at www.liftsavertmmount.com

Outdoor Specialties in Eastland, TX did a great job. This was a new boat that had a Fortrex mounted from the factory, but I asked them to put on an Ulterra with the Liftsaver. I had an Ulterra (without the liftsaver) on my old boat and it would hit the roller, especially if the ramp was steep.

You're welcome to post the photos of the boat. I'll see if I can get more photos that show the liftsaver better from different angles.

That really is a beautiful boat!!!

I like how they canted the mount to make sure the control head was within the boat sides or you would have had a difficult time with it catching on the boat lift rails. That was one of the benefits that I built into the LiftSaver and now I'm glad I did.
