Anybody have any recent reports for Joe Pool? Trying to decide between squaw creek and joe pool. I had a pretty awesome bite at joe pool a couple of weeks ago but don't know what the water looks like after the recent rains and what the water level is. Thanks in advance.

Last Tuesday we boated 15 up to 4.5lbs & lost a few good ones, too. Water was stained to muddy in most places & water temp was 83 degrees. Good luck!

Caught three overs this morning, a dozen or so slots, and 3 unders. All flippin a VERY light weighted(1/16th tungsten....pegged) Biffle Bug(green pumpkin) on 12lb Fluoro with a flipping hook. Best was around 6.5 pounds. Average was around 3 pounds. Stopped getting a consistent bite as the rain started moving in.
Lake is holding steady at around 4 ft high. Water was really clear for pool on the lower end. Slightly stained. Upper end was not a clear. And had some debris from the creeks. Over all....not too bad. Water temps were low to mid 80's.
VERY AGRESSIVE BITE!

Oh.....and the better fish were VERY TIGHT to cover. If there were three trees clumped together. It would be IN BETWEEN them. Lol.

Steeze.....can you give me some pointers on your flipping setup? I was out there bound and determined to only throw plastics and after the top water bite was over and I moved to plastics, I just got frustrated and went back to the ole trusty crankbaits (which we did pretty good as far as numbers but no monsters, biggest was right under 3)
I really want to learn flipping and Joe Pool especially, grew up on that lake and for some reason it calls my name...until the jet skis and wakeboard boats come out.
Any info would be great appreciated. I'd rather not use a spinning setup if I could get away with it.

Oh Diesel, caught all of ours following the creek channel and looking for steep drop offs in shallow water. Every time we caught one, it was almost on top of the drop off....except for the sandbass, they bite anything, everything everywhere it seems on JP.

Flipping is easy with bait caster. Don't need spinning rod. You want to loosen the tension screw for more free spin and use your thumb to control. YouTube instructional and then practice then some more practice. You should learn in your backyard before even going to the lake

The one I use the most out there is a Diawa Zillion 7'6" heavy fast for with a Cheap Quatum PT reel. I use it for heavier stuff. Today I was using a Falcon Cara Amistad with a left handed Team Lews Pro Z. 7.5:1. As for where to flip? Try flipping big shaded tree bases that are in around 2ft of water. Don't be scared to go shallow. The bass are not used to the trees and seem to like it. They also seem stupid when they are in them. Haha. Flip the bait into the tree base easily....no big splash. Keep the line semi tight as it falls and concentrate on feeling the bait. If it does ANYTHING other than fall to the bottom.....rip on it! Haha. Every big fish I've ever caught there....EVER....I didn't feel the bite at all. It would simply not touch bottom or just start moving away from the landing spot. Those kinds are lots of fun. Once the bait touches bottom, hop it or drag it very slowly a few feet. If nothing by then, reel in a flip the other side of the tree/bush. Concentrate on heavy green cover or good size shady areas. Especially after the sun gets a little higher. After 9:30-10:00am.
Eat. Sleep. Fish.

How about this?.....
Went to a few new spots today to get out of the wind.....broke off the biggest bass I have EVER seen. I was so mad, I sat in timeout for about 30 minutes. Disgusted. Because you just don't hook into a DD every day. 30 minutes later....I hooked her momma. Jeez Louis ....when I say it was an easy 12-13lb bass. I mean it. HUGE. then I am panicking. Knowing I broke one off earlier. And I was sooooo careful. I jumped my big [censored] down to the passenger seat to lip it. And it dove onset the boat and came back up. Shook it head....dove again. I was freaking out. Finally....it was back to the boat side....shook it's head again and gone.
To EVERYONE AT THE SWIMMING BEACH IN LOYD .....I am SORRY FOR THE SCREAMING OF PROFANITIES. SORRY FOR CUSSING AND SLAMMIN MY rod to the deck.

Something similar happened to my wife and I at Lake Athens. It was her fish, I went to lip it and it got away--I felt so bad. After that, I ALWAYS keep a net in the boat. I am determined not to lose another big fish at the boat.
Hey--we finally caught one! dwjimages.smugmug.com

Been flipping trees in the 5ft range next to drop off. Been really amazed how good the bite has been. Only need to fish a couple of hours.
