Ok, here I tried to imitate a shad, unsecesfully I might add, but they will catch fish and go in my box. I tried to build up the bodies to get the "belly" that a shad has but I didn't build them up enough. And here are just some for my box I didn't get too inventive with paint this time as I was just trying to mimic the bodies and action. If y'all have any ideas on how to improve on them please let me know.

On the stump bugs, the yellow tails had the natural curve angled in. The chart tails had the curve angled out. I think the inward angle looks best. What do y'all think?

I think it's more important how they look in water rather than out. Can you get a photo comparing them in water?

Your stump bugs look great. Great ingenuity on your part.
To build up the belly, tie your feathers in and then double them back towards the tail and cut them off right where you plan on stopping your chenille. That is how I add bulk to prevent from having to build up with chenille.

I think it's more important how they look in water rather than out. Can you get a photo comparing them in water? Yes I agree, that's why I took the pics. The pics above that look a little funny are in a jar of water Your stump bugs look great. Great ingenuity on your part.

That is how I add bulk to prevent from having to build up with chenille. I used yarn stacking from head to tail only on the belly. The second one has a lot more stacks. It was close but not quite where I wanted it. Man, those are AWESOME!!!! Thanks REDGUN!

I think they look great too by the way! Sorry bout the confusion. Definitely very creative and I think they'll be great crappie catchers!

I like what you are doing with splitting the tail hackle in the first series of pics. All your jigs look great.

Good looking jigs! I have been busy this weekend with my 50th high school reunion. So just got first look at this.
I have always preferred longer tails and I can't tell you how many use to tell me they were too long. I just never listened! If I tie a short tail it's because it was ask for or it's a Gray Ghost type jig! Yours are looking good!

We'll see how the fish like em', that's the real test lol Good looking jigs! I have been busy this weekend with my 50th high school reunion. So just got first look at this.

Skip Thanks Skip! Yes I've heard that long tails promote "short strikes" but I have yet to have a problem with it. If I ever do, I'll likely make shorter marabou tails so I can keep some action in them
