So I have just recently relocated to Midland, Tx. Can anyone or would anyone be willing to share a little honest info about a few lakes within a few hours drive of midland that may not have been affected by golden algae or low water kills. I will drive a couple of hours one way from midland to try my luck. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Alan henry for sure. Don't waste your time with balmorea. Or nasworthy.those are probably the closest.

Thank you Clint. I have researched lots of lakes out here and lots of them are in really bad shape according to the info I am finding. I may go get Alan Henry in the Morning.

A lot of people come fish oak creek reservoir from midland, maybe a 2 hour drive. It's located in coke county just south of blackwell, tx. Nice little lake and it has recently come up over 10' the fish are scattered but I caught good numbers there a few weekends ago. If you're after big fish specifically I would look into OH Ivie as well

Midland and Odessa both have great Bass Clubs. Join them and learn. They will take you to the best lakes that are in driving distance. You will learn a ton of information and have the opportunity to fish with some of the best guys around.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

We went to alan henry thursday and friday. I wouldnt suggest going on a wknd. Friday afternoon started loading up with the big party boats blaring their music and riding around making big waves. I caught 11 fish friday in about 5 hours.. i love ivie and its caught some water lately so it should be good on water for a while. This time of year is usually about the time i quit fishing and find other things to do. Generally im a spring time fisherman only. Heard some good reports on spence as well but its really low tho accessible.. alan henry, ivie and amistad are the best choices. 137 miles from odessa to alan henry makes it the closest good lake for me.

Alan Henry, Oak Creek, White River (yes there are some good fish there)
I hear that Spence has gotten better since they stocked it. By next year JB Thomas should be doing good. All of these are within a two or three hours. Under 5 hours Amistad and Ivie.

Steve B, have you been to Thomas any? I have a buddy that went about six weeks ago and said they caught a bunch of 8 to 10 inch bass flipping.

Never been to thomas in my life. Heard the same kind of reports for spence. Hopefully we can keep water in these lakes and the future will be better..

Is Thomas a mud hole? Haven't been there in several years but it's always been chocolate milk and it's just a mental thing with me. Don't like fishing in that type of water.
