I was wondering if you guys feel it's beneficial or even necessary to use Yamalube when changing the oil in my Yamaha F80 outboard? The Yamalube is about 12 bucks a quart vs. about 7 for Pennzoil. My motor uses about 5 quarts. The difference in money is not a whole lot but if the products are essentially the same it seems like a waste.

My local Yamaha dealer (bike, atv and Waverunner store) has 4M for $8.99/qt and $24.99/gal. Seems like Academy wants $32/gal. The Yam filters are outrageous at $20+ so I use Wix or NAPA filters for about $8.

check domo-online. They beat all the dealers. I ordered 6 gallons of Evinrude XP100 from them and it was $34.50 a gal to my front door. There are some places around League City that will sell it for that but you have to bring your own jug. And, don't forget to factor in the gas burned to go get it.

If you like your motor I would not run Pennzoil in it.

If the oils have the same weight and API rating I can't see why one would be any better than the other.

They are not the same. Ask some of the guys who put 300-400 hours a year on a motor.

Additives. Every oil group uses different ones.

And base stocks. Do you prefer ashphaltic or parriffin? Which friction reducer do you like, Teflon or moly? Lots of differences.
