Sounds like the oil tank under the cowling went out. My 04 merc 200, it has gone out twice since I have had it, something to do with the float.

This. I used to have a Merc 200 EFI and I had the oil injection system removed because the pump has plastic parts in it known to break/wear resulting in failure (that's bad news if you don't catch it quickly....like immediately). Have the oil injection removed and begin premixng in fuel. Pain the butt, but it may save you mucho dinero down the road. Good luck.

By the way, that part in your pic is check valve. 3-pronged, meant to regulate flow of oil to engine tank as demanded by pressure from crankcase exhaust that creates the pressure in your big tank. The bottom prong is simply an dump out if pressure exceeds 4psi. If you have oil collecting in the bottom cowl, it means the check valve is bypassing and time to replace it. They do go bad- mine did.

thanks for the info. I do have oil in the the bottom and i couldnt figure out where it was coming from. So I need to mention the check valve. The motor was rebuilt almost 2 years ago and i had it looked over again in march. Everything was good except the impeller and a gasket in the lower unit

Had this happen on the 02' 200. Float switch gets stuck if it gets low and the oil tank has to be replaced.

oil pump has a magnet on the shaft to measure the speed the pump is running. if the RPM of the pump is not correct for the rpm of the engine, it will beep.(the magnet has been known to come out ) If the float in the tank is not at the the correct level, it will beep. Also a crack in the very brittle lid will cause issues here.
The oil pump is gear driven, if the gear has missing teeth, it will cause the pump to spin at an incorrect speed. This means the pump is about to fail. As one or 2 teeth break, the rest is going to happen real quick. You can prolly see this by removing the pump and looking at the gear for shredded plastic. The pump drive gear replacement is very expensive. Most people just remove the pump and start premixing. (I do this on my 200XRI)
A good mechanic will get you fixed up, but you can remove the oil pump pretty easy.

I had this happen at Rayburn, it was the oil tank cap leaking air (under the cowling. I replaced the cap all Good,

to keep fishing I put oil directly in with the fuel.

Check the caps on your reservoir in the transom. Mine (2000 BassCat) started to leak, letting in air. Then the oil wouldn't vacuum up to the motor. Start the motor then spray soapy water on the caps. If you see air, you need new caps or o-rings.

I had a 200 XRI. I also recommend removing the oil injection system. My Merc mechanic talked me into it after I had a close call. I was cruising across the water, buzzer went off, I immediately turned the key off. Buzzer was instant and constant upon every attempt to restart. Finally got a boat to pull me in. The plastic gear on the injection pump sheared. He told me this was common and charged me $150 to remove the entire oil injection system. He also said I was LUCKY because it is rare someone kills the engine in time before damage. She ran like a dream for another 3 years before I sold her and got a different boat.

If it ain't yours don't mess with it!
