I'm looking for a 9 or 10" screen for my TM and because of economics, right now I'm leaning towards the Hook 9. Oh, did I mention I was a Lowrance Man? I'm also looking at the Elite 9 Chirp. My question's are: 1. Hook or Chirp, What's the difference and is it worth $200 2. If I'm gonna end up spending $1K or more anyway, should I shoot for the HDS Gen 2 Touch unit (that is IF I can find one)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can get a Gen 2 touch around there. I'd stick with Lowrance if that's what's on the console. Having them linked is great. If I was starting all over though I might go Bird. 360 sounds nice but I haven't seen it enough to form an opinion yet.

Wish I could help but I just put a OLD eagle unit on the bow Tuesday. Before that I marked it from the console, tossed a buoy, then had to "feel" with my jig lol! Man what a difference it makes! A 9-10" screen would be awesome!! Good luck Pepop!

Even though you have Lowrance (I do too), I would consider HB for the bow. Partly because HB has side/down scan all in one transducer. As a crappie guy, I have yet to see the need for having the consol & bow linked.

I've got a Hook 7 on the front and it works great. If I was going to get a 9 or 10 that baby is going on the console and it's going to be a Lowrance touch screen, probably a Gen 2 10". Right now it's an Elite 7ti with a Navionics Platinum South and it does a great job.

I use a Elite 7 on the TM. I have one with chirp and one without. I can't tell the difference.
The Elite 9 should be great. You don't want sidescan up front so don't pay for it.
I don't recommend linking the units. If one malfunctions it will boof both units.
Back up your data to a chip every few months.

A Lowrance rep explained to me that the chirp feature is really useless unless you're fishing very deep water. On most inland lakes you will not benefit from that feature. They came out with the Hook model as an alternative to HB's Helix models.

I have an elite 5 on the TM and HDS Gen 2 7 touch on the console. When do we go in my boat for you to see.
Using the site for a while...this is really great to share fishing ideas and success with others.

The HOOK models cannot be networked with other graphs. So if that's something you need/want you'll need to look at the Elite 7 or better.

I like that my units are linked because I can mark a pile from the console unit and then walk to the front and it is already on that graph and easy to find. I rarely use marker buoys anymore and just use the map on the front graph as a reference. Marker buoys seem to attract other boats.
