After traveling all week, I took today off to go fishing. I've been wanting a longer rod to jig with, so I called Tommy Ezell and asked where I could pick up an 8' Bonehead rod. He pointed me toward a bait shop out by Lavon that had one in stock. Drove out, picked it up, visited with some really nice people, and then headed to my slip at Ray Hubbard!
I got on the water about noon thirty and played dodge the splashes while going over to a spot I found last weekend north of 30. Shortly after arrival, I marked fish in 18' of water, suspended between 10 and 12'. I dropped a Grapevine Brush Glider with a 1/16 ounce head and it was game on! I'd catch one keeper for around every 8 undersized fish. But, I broke the new rod in well!
Very few hits on the fall, and they seemed to like it best when the bait was slowly being raised up.
I kept 9 keepers and will fry some of them up for me and the bride on Sunday.
