Tried to make a long cast and the rod snapped. To my knowledge, the first time I have ever snapped a rod while casting.

I had this happen to me not to long ago but not with this brand. I found myself wondering if one of my buddies had stepped on it while it was laying on the deck and caused it to weaken because I had the rod for years without a problem.

Heard a story about the owner of a very well known and high quality rod company showing an angler how just llightly stepping on a rod weakens a blank. Then tying his line to a a stationary object and making an average hookset and the rod snapped.

I think we (anglers) are a lot of the time partly at fault for a lot of the blank failures we experience.

Agreed. Rods are designed for stress loads spread throughout the parabolic curvature of the rod, not centralized shock or impact stresses. Rods are not designed for banging around on deck or in a rod locker or in some cases accidentally getting stepped on. As in any manufactured product there will be periodic defects in the build process but I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of rod failures are due to damage that we as users impose on them and don't even realize it.

I recently started using 13 rods for myself and my guide
Customers and they seem to be a good quality rod. I have broken
Many rods and I'd have to say most were probably stepped on
Before they broke

Broke a Carbonlite tonight boat-flipping a two pounder. I'm guessing I probably stepped in it or banged it with a compartment lid at some point. I got a good two years out of it and I don't usually make it that long before I break em. Lol.

I had 5 Omen Black's and have broken all but one of them. Casting, boat flipping, and on the hook set. The one I haven't broke is a spinning rod and that's only because I don't use it much. Yes, breaking 1 maybe 2 might be my fault but but 4. I think not. They all broke close to the same place. About 6 inches from the tip. I called 13Fishing and they told me that I had to have a receipt for each and all of them for them to do anything for me. I will never own another. There are a lot of other rods out that are in the same price range I think are better. Phenix rods for one. Lews speed sticks is another. Dobyns has the Fury line out now. So goodbye to 13Fishing for good.

I bought 6 gen 1 omen used and still used them another year with no issues. One only broke one Rod that wasn't my fault and that was a new Denali out of the Rod tube. Tied on a squarebill and made one cast and it snapped at the tip.

This. I've owned 2 of the 13 Omen blacks and both broke about 6 or so inches from the tip. The first one was one I had bought used so I didnt think much of it. 2nd one was brand new just bought from Gander mountain first time using it. Caught about a 1lb bass and pulled him out of the water and onto the bank and "snap" 6" from the tip gone. Won't own another myself either.
