Some asshats decided to break into my storage unit last week. For some reason, they left my electronics on the boat, all they took was all of my rods and reels. Well, almost all of them. They left one old spinning rod and a spinnerbait Rod. They took 2 Oldham 7'6" cranking rods that say "built for Jeffrey Piel" on them (I bought them from Jeffrey a few years ago), along with a Dobyns 8'3" heavy swim bait Rod, and several unmarked custom rods (all black with black thread), and 1 purple Tempest C-rig Rod with a couple of bent guides. They stole these from my storage unit in Seguin, so they are likely pawned or for sale somewhere between San Antonio and Austin. Please keep your eyes open in case you see them for sale. I have insurance, but it is proving to be difficult to convince progressive the value of these rods and reels, so that combined with my $1k deductible is not going to allow me to replace all of them. I would appreciate it if you would let me know should you happen to run across any of them.

Nothing stays in our boat for that very reason. All rod and reels come inside the garage. Same with all electronics and tackleboxes. A bit of a pain unloading and loading stuff, but at least it has kept all of it safe...knock on wood.

Storage doesn't have cameras!? Time to find a new storage....

What a shame that somebody would do that!! Was this a fully enclosed? They just cut the lock?

Check Craig's List too, also any flea markets in the area

They have a camera, but somehow it wasn't working during the robbery. The folks that own the units are a good family, and own a welding fab shop just next door to the storage place. I don't suspect any wrongdoing on their part. Some of their welding helpers? Who knows.
This is a fully enclosed unit. The thieves cut the lock (and took it with them). They got into 8 other units, some of which are used by a telecom construction company for installation of fiber optic line. Those guys lost a boring machine and a concrete sawcut machine.

Yeah I'd be giving hell to that storage place... unless its not marked for video surveillance or something. As much $$ as they get per unit they should be held responsible to a point for the breaking into of a unit.

Like others mentioned stop by the pawn shops and check, if you have a local swap meet/flea market/garage sales swing by. Fishing stuff is so easy to "move" but the custom stuff you are talking about should at least be readily identifiable.

I've been on that since I found out about the theft. Once the storage place called me and I was headed over there, I called a friend who is a detective with Seguin PD. He met me over there. He ended up being assigned the case, so he is checking the pawn shop database daily.
There is a flea market just north of San Antonio, and a guy has a booth there who only sells fishing items, so I am headed over there first thing Saturday morning to see if he ended up with some of my stuff.

I suggest contacting the storage units insurance company and tell them you feel there is some liability on their part because the security camera wasn't working and severely hurts your chances of recovering your stolen possessions...ask them to take care of of your deductible....better yet...talk to a local attorney and ask his opinion if there is any liability on the storage owners because of faulty camera or lax security on their part...

I will stay on the lookout. Sorry to hear about that. I have a buddy on here (Falcon native) who got his rods and stuff stolen out of his barn/storage area. I believe it was in Seguin as well. Must be something in the water there...

Nonetheless, I'll keep my eyes open. Hope everything works out for you!

That sucks! I hate to hear about thefts. It's funny that security cameras always seem to be down when something is stolen. I hope you are able to get your stuff back. Thieves can be pretty stupid, so you could get lucky and get some of it back.

Snyder's storage unit is in Cibolo. The 2nd phone call I made was to him to find out if the folks that stole his gear were in jail or not, since the burglaries were eerily similar.

Oh ok, I must've gotten mixed up. Yeah, could've been the same people.
