Met Rob at Oak Cove and on the water at 6am. We have been wanting to go to Whitney but you know how flooded it is and probably won't be able to fish it this summer at all. Leave the ramp and head for the flats. Graphed a while fished a little but never found any concentrations of fish. Noticed a fog bank down at the dam so headed that way. Couldn't believe how foggy it was and how much cooler the air was at the gates. Found birds working and fish busting the top but they would not go for any top water lures or several other types and color of lures. They were all around us and we could hardly buy a bite. Finally found that they wanted chart spinner. It was fish on almost every cast for about 1/2 hour. Then they went down and scattered. This was in 40-50 fow.

Tried several other places but could only get one here and one there. Rob said lets try the woods, North and West of 287 bridge. BINGO. Slabbin them up two at a time. But the bite was very weird for this time of year. It was like dead sticking in winter, you could hardly feel the bite at all. The line got heavy or slack but you did not feel the bite period. Don't know how many we caught but we had a great time. All catch and release. Be aware that there are a lot of under hybrids in the mix. One more thing, be sure to bring bug spray, there was absolutely no wind and they were all over us.

Rob with a double

Nice job. Odd bite, odd year. That sums up the year pretty well. Seems like the white bass have pretty much vacated the main lake humps.

Talked to a few guys today saying in spots the lake actually looks like it is turning over. That seems very odd for this time of year. Did you see anything like that?

Yes we did. Saw what looked like clumps of algae floating and what appeared to be a thermocline on the graph. The water is very green.
Also wanted to mention that we checked windsock and only found catfish.

Man that's odd to see a turnover this time of year. Must have something to do with all the inflow. Thanks for the great report!

Not sure what was going on with the green stuff on the surface the last two days??? I wouldn't think the lake was "turning over" as we caught fish in 15'to 35' water and everywhere in between. Yesterday's bite for us was slow early and then really turned on around 10AM. Talked to a couple of the other Guides fishing other locations and the same happened for them with a good late AM bite. Seeing lots of little fish chasing little bait to the surface but not good schools on top like Coach found. Hope we have a top water bite this year as the last two years it's been almost non-existent.

Couple of pics from this week!

Thanks,
