Need some help determining tackle.
Would appreciate suggestions on rods, reels, line, leader, tackle.
We have quite a bit of fishing gear for wading but nothing for the pier.
I'd love some advice on a couple different rod and reel set ups also.
Thanks for any guidance.

You can use your wade fishing rods and reels if you're fishing for trout and slot reds in the lights of the pier. Could probably also catch a over the slot red on most wading type set ups... but anything over ~34inches.. you might consider upgrading your tackle.

If you are specifically targeting larger species then I'd go with larger gear. Surf rod type equipment or at a minimum a 6500 C3 ambassador on a 7' MH rod. You can land a bull red and probably a sub 20lb jack on that.

Thank you very much. I'm taking my son with me and he's left handed so may try a right handed spin reel with him (so he can reel with his left). I appreciate the advise.

on most spin casting reels you can change the handle from right side to left side. I'm left handed also and do it all the time
