As most of you know, I recently moved down here, & am FINALLY getting the inshore exposure I have desperately craved for a long time. I have a dock where I live, & it has been pretty productive on trout from 15-22", pretty regular. (not so much since the rain) All my fish have come on artificials of 1 sort or another. Honestly haven't been throwing jig/plastic much due to the consistent topwater plug bite, & I fished plastic with low success in the beginning, but I'm sure a lot of that is because I wasnt fishing the right areas at the right times, etc. I started fishing with Mirrolures. Catch 2000 & junior, She-Pup in hot pink or bone/chrome are pretty good. Then, I bit the bullet one day & bought a Paul Brown Fat Boy in a "clown" pattern....... ...... DUDE!!!!!!.. I can't keep the trout off this lure. calm or wind, clear or murky, they love this sucker! This has a dark side- now it's all I throw 90% of the time, & I know that's not good, because sometimes it doesn't fish so good because of conditions. what is y'all's favorite go-to lure, why, and what do you do to force yourself to use other stuff? I know, 3-part question. Hey, its a slow day at the shack.......
what say you?

I have had a lot of luck the past year using a Rapala X-Rap SW shallow diver in glass ghost color for nice sized trout. I also like to start off with a Spook early, then go to either a Mirrolure, Paul Brown, or Johnson silver spoon as the day heats up. I prefer fishing with plugs and spoons to soft plastics simply because my hookup ratio just seems to be better, although there is no denying that soft plastics are very productive.

It varies. Corkys, skitterwalks, a variety of tails. Whatever the fish want to eat.
A baitfish fly is my current favorite. I like making something the fish will eat.

Plum/Chartreuse 5" SW Bass Assassin on a 1/16 oz. Chartreuse/RedEye Rockport Rattler jig
Very effective for trout, and big trout at that, and I catch the Big 3 on it year round here in the Rockport Bay System.

For the lights, any small lipped jerk bait that looks silver will do well in the lights. A YoZuri crystal minnow flash in the smaller sizes worked eraticly does pretty well. Anything that looks like a baitfish over a shrimp should catch you slightly bigger fish since they'll be looking for baitfish as compared to juvi's looking for shrimp etc.
That Fat Boy is a good lure and I use a lot in the cooler months as well. Should be catching you a better size fish as well.
Other favorites that I don't use in the lights are Spook Junior like above- bone, silver, clown, One Knocker spook in Bone, Bone Diamond, Oakie shad, Woodpecker, and trout pattern. Mann Baby one minus and strike pro's hunchback are great little crank baits for reds in the marsh. Spinner baits with wither cocohoes or gulp swimming mullet on them Gold or Silver spoon etc.
That will at least get you started. Even if you are fishing the lights, sometimes you have to move to another light to find fish, and that is actually the more important part. I have my confidence lures but without understanding how to find the fish those lures just don't produce well. You should be fine in the lights though, ... you only have to move a light or two to find fish in the lights.

Just can't beat a popping cork. When all other lures fail you can always count on catching something with a popping cork and Gulp or live shrimp.

Big silver spoon. Cast out, let it fall a solid 5-count. Give it a quick twitch and then twitch/fall it with a 3-count all the way in.
