I have an 18ft fiberglass bass boat with a 150 Johnson. I wanted to know what size of xi5 I should get the 55 lb or 80 lb.

I ask because I have talked to several people with the same boat that have the 55lb xi5 and they say it holds them in position even in white capped water, while shop owners say go with the 80lb because you don't want to over work a 55lb it will blow the motor and it will need to be repaired within a year or two. I wanted to know if anyone has a bass boat with a 55lb if it works just fine. I would mainly be using it for the pinpoint over brush piles for crappie fishing and heading lock for slow trolling .5-1.5 mph.

55lb will pull it fine but an 80lb will let you fish longer.

I would suggest going with the 80#. It will be the best on batteries and cause the least "wear/heat" on the trollingmotor. Let me know if I can help.

If you fish for white bass/hybrids/stripers and are trying to stay on a school on a windy day you will want the 80lb.....

Definitely go with the 80 lb. I got caught in a sudden blast of north wind one day that really put me in a bind up against a bridge and my 55 pound couldn't get me out before I had some boat damage and that was a 17 ft. boat. I put a 70 lb. on it the next week. Like mentioned above, you'll have to go to a 24 volt system but you'll like it better.

I have a 80lb on a 18' bass boat and would want 'No Less'.

Mounting an Xi5 can be a pain on a bass boat but send me a pm and I can help you out when you purchase the tm.
