Jos and I took her son and two of his friends to the lake for some fresh air and sunfishing Sunday. None of the three believed they could catch fish, but wanted to at least give it a try... figured at least they'd get some sun!

Tried the spot that has been producing big ol' 'gills, but the kids just couldn't catch on to watching a bobber way out in the water, setting the hook and reeling in the fish. Spent too much time pulling weeds off their lines, and trying to get through to them. Lesson learned. Don't take newbies or those who have struggled with the basics to a weedy area... We moved to the pier, took off the floats, and told them to just drop the lines over the side. Well, suffice to say, they are now addicted!

Let Jos take over, so I could relax, have a cold one and slow grill some chops, veggies and rice...

Fishin's hard work, ya know, so the kids got kinda sleepy after chowing down...

Took a few home to the kids' family and a couple of other friends...

What a gorgeous day at the lake!

...as Chuck would say, "it just don't get no better than this!"

Great looking kids and fish. What lake were you fishing?

May I ask what lake you were fishing? I don't have a boat anymore and looking for a place to catch me some nice gills.

Thanks, guys! Fishrmn, it's a lake with only a tiny little bit of public bank access, and that's not where the sunfish thrive. Until we bought property there we had lots of success in Ray Hubbard, Lavon and Fork. Frankly, because damn few anglers in Texas value them, sunnies are thick throughout DFW and east Texas.
