Hi folks. It seemed the issues with trailer tires I'm having are not going away. First year I've bought the boat brand new and I noticed that both tires had issues with wear on the outer/inner edges. Took it back to the dealer and they tried to tell me I loaded the boat too heavy when I towed. They replace the tires with Hercule brand which lasted a lot longer than the original tires. Anyhow again I noticed the same issues. Unfortunately warranty has expired. What do your think might be causing this? This a single axel. I aired it up to 60 psi and I know it said to max air at 50psi. Possible the boat is too heavy? Any suggestions? I replaced both hub bearings and the problems are not going away. Perhaps I need to have the tires balanced? Here are the pictures:

The tire is starting to show the wear at the edges:

Make sure the axle is installed straight and true. Just a little bit off and tires go away.

There is no alignment for these and the dealer should have told you that, other than checking the axle position on each side. You would measure the distance from the axle to the center of the hitch. If that's correct, the geometry of the axle is not right and needs to be replaced. Most likely the axle was bent incorrectly when being bent causing the tires to lean to the side. I'm not an alignment guy so I don't know what the terminology is.

Clarify something. Did both tires had inner and outer wear, or one had inner wear and one had outer wear? From your pic, it looks like one edge only is wearing.

Once a tire starts wearing that way, no correcting it. I have had the tires turned around on the wheel and it continued to wear in the same place.

I had the same problem on my old boat and took it and had the axle checked to see if it was straight, come to find out the axle was off center a 1/4inch on one side. They loosened the bolt on the trailer and relined the axle and that was the problem and it took care of it and no more wear on one side. Find a trailer sales that will check it for you.

Tck73..it's on both sides. Inner and outer. From the pictures #2 to 4 both edges are worn out. I'm going to check the axel and see from there. Thanks for the help. This is getting really expensive and ridiculous.

I see. Generally speaking that is caused by under inflation, but it looks like you have addressed that. I would check the axle, I like to jack it up and pull the wheels off, drop a plumb bob from the ball hitch and measure back to each hub face. You can also shake the axle around and see if it may be loose or if there are worn parts on the hangers.

Tck73. .thanks. I will check that out. I agreed normally both edges wear is a result of under inflated tires.
