Walmart Waco, Tx franklin & new road just started selling Ethanol free gas. Went by this am a bought some. I thought the boaters would like this info.

I have read up on, done a ton of research on the use of Ethanol in Outboard motors.

I have also seen a ton of articles about using Marine Sta-Bill.

If I pay $20 bucks for a bottle of Sta-Bill, to treat my fuel, how is that different from buying NON-Ethanol gas?

My boat does not sit idle. I use it year round.

I thought that as long as I have to buy my fuel at the local gas station, and I use the Sta-Bill, What's the difference?

I've seen Fuel around Lake Fork be 12-16 cents higher for the Ethanol free stuff....

Your biggest advantage with ethanol free gas is the motor will make more power while burning less gas.
In order to make the same HP with ethanol the motor has to have more fuel sprayed in from the injectors.
In order to do this the ECM calibration has to be changed. Since 2 stroke motors don't use wide band O2 sensors to tell the computer what it needs and increase the duty cycle of the injectors to match the target AFR in the fuel table, ethanol fuel will cause the motor to run lean and make less power. If it's a four stroke and has O2 sensors then the motor will self adjust to provide a richer mixture.
I am not aware that 4 stroke outboards have O2 sensors however. Maybe the big Verados or the 7 Marine engines do. I am no expert on outboards but the principles of internal combustion are basically the same.

How many Oz of stabill are you adding per tank, plus other additives? I'm paying on average 8-10 cents per gallon more for ethanol free than ethanol. For me it's about the same price when you figure your not adding the additives and their cost.

Plus my engine was not designed to run ethanol originally, so I prefer not to. Also the sticker at the pump is not completely accurate when they say 10% when I blew my powerhead a few years back the shop had a tester and the fuel in my boat tested at 35% ethanol. I won't run ethanol fuel in my boat again unless it's the only option. The cost of a powerhead will buy alot of fuel regardless of the price difference.

I have seen ethanol do a number on a lot of engines, more so on the older ones, I don't know about the newer engines but if I buy one I will still run non ethanol in it, till I see flex fuel on the clowing like you do on some of the newer cars and trucks.

Murphy oil in front of Walmart in Lufkin is FINALLY selling Ethanol free gas... it's $0.50/gal more than regular unleaded ethanol gas... I'll be filling up the boat there from now on... Today it was $2.62/gal.

I have a 1985 Black Max and never really had any problems. I did replace all of the fuel lines and added a filter between the tanks and the engine. If I know I am going to be running the boat a lot the only thing I might add to the gas is Seafoam. I have milled heads so I run premium but I believe premium has just as much ethanol as the others.

I have not found any ethanol free gas in the DFW area. Some of the local marinas may have it but no stations that I am aware of. I live in McKinney and fish Lavon and Tawakoni, I get ethanol free gas in Greenville and East Tawakoni. If I need gas for fishing Lavon between trips to Tawakoni, I take my gas cans and drive 25 or 30 miles to Greenville to get it. My motor is a 2012 model and I have never put a drop of ethanol in it.
