Ecoboost has throttle body problems. Look for a recall soon.
First I've heard of it. Same here. And I've owned two of them.

I'd go with the 5.4 v8 in the ford, I picked up a 2005 fx4 in excellent condition with crew cab and a grill guard only 76k miles for much less than your budget. With a budget of $22k you can buy a very nice vehicle. The 5.4 has been good to me and with cooper tires on it, it will go pretty much anywhere I want. Not to freak you out or anything, but the 5.4 spark plugs are fun. It's the reason I won't ever by one that isn't 08 or later.
Man up. Fight the GOOD fight.

Well plans have changed a lot. I ended up buying my nephew's 2000 Silverado ext cab 4x4 2500. Has the 6.0L and 4L80E transmission. Needs some work but it's still solid and I paid under $1000 cash. So can't beat it. I can do all the work and by the time I'm done with it, it will go another 180k miles.
