May 2016 Update:

Below are the pumping, water releases and evaporation totals for May 2016.

Evaporation for May = 6.6 inches.

Rainfall Recorded for May at the SRA Headquarters = 1.85 inches.

Water Released Downstream for Communities by the SRA for May = 190.3 acre-feet or about 0.083 inches off the lake.

Water Pumped by Dallas for May = 5943 acre-feet or about 1,936,534,870 gallons. This equals about 2.58 inches of water off the surface of the lake by pumping.

Water Released by the SRA through the Flood Gates for May = 31,632.4 acre-feet or about 10,307,461,825 gallons. This is the equivalent of taking 1.14 feet or about 13.7 inches of water off Lake Fork when it is full and dumping it downstream.

So, the total water removed from the lake for May was about 22.96 inches.

2016 Totals through May:

Evaporation for 2016 = 24.34 inches or about 56,165 acre-feet.

Rainfall Recorded by the SRA for 2016 at the SRA Headquarters = 23.34 inches.

Water Released Downstream for Communities by the SRA for 2016 = 844.8 acre-feet or about 275,279,263 gallons. This has totaled about 0.366 inches so far for 2016.

Water Pumped by Dallas for 2016 = 27,721.8 acre-feet of about 9,033,187,341 gallons. This equals about 12.0 inches of water removed from the lake so far for 2016.

Water Released Downstream by the SRA through the Flood Gates when the Lake was Overfull in 2016 = 244,218 acre-feet or about 79,578,777,205 gallons. This is the equivalent of 8.82 feet of water taken off the lake so far in 2016.

So, the total amount of water removed from the lake so far in 2016 is about 328,950 acre-feet or about 11.88 feet. About 74% of that water has left the lake through the flood gates when the lake was overfull to prevent damage to the dam.

One other observation is so far Dallas Water Utilities has pumped 27,721.8 acre-feet from Lake Fork this year. Dallas has rights to 131,000 acre-feet, so they have taken "only" 21.2% of the water they are entitled to take and we are 42% of the way through the year. So far this year Dallas has averaged 59.4 million gallons per day of pumping from Lake Fork.

Best wishes!!

Steve Chick
