Was at Pines this weekend and caught them pretty good on trot lines and catfish Charlie. Had cleaned all I wanted so I did not rebait it Sunday evening. I am positive there was nothing left on the hooks after I took fish off Sunday mid morning. When I went to take the line up Monday morning I had 16 fish on out of 40 hooks. Funny part is I had been weeding though a bunch of small fish and without bait nearly all the fish were keepers. I have never seen this before. Y'all ever have this happen?

We had that happen on tawakoni, we had two boats and left the shad in the other boat. It got dark on us and didn't get half baited but had quite a bit on the empty hooks.

I had that happen at pines about a month ago... We had lines out, been slaying the fish... Went rod and reel fishing and I drove by the lines to pick them up and noticed our floats bobbing, they've been in the water for about a day with no bait and we took 21 fish off out of 100 hooks.

I just thought it was pretty funny. All the time I have spent rolling dough bait, catching live bait, concocting my own bait, chumming the water, and then just catch a good mess of fish with absolutely nothing but hooks. They weren't even shiny hooks they were just plain ole trebles.

I have caught them on M/T hooks had been baiting with cut shad thought it might be the shad smell still on the hooks/line. I have caught a flathead cat the same way. An old fisherman said when he ran short of live bait he would use a small piece of tin foil and caught.

No reason to waste your money or time on bait.

Saves a ton of time!!! I've been chasing bait and baiting my hooks all these years and it wasn't even necessary!

Know some folks that run lines with 6/0 Eagle Claws with straight shanks. They use 48" stagings 6' apart and they only bait every other fourth or fifth hook. Another guy that fished PK years ago only dipped his hooks in secret formula similar to the bait found in Henley's Book of Formulas from around the turn of the century.

My Dad and I used to catch a lot of buffalo on empty hooks.
